Quick question, is there any way I can change the websit name to something more simplie and appealing from what my domain is currently?
Current website domain- http://1-ryan-demaree.artistwebsites.com/index.html
I'd like to change it to something like "RyanDemaree.com" or "ModernSurrealist.com" or something along those lines.
Is this possible?
If so, how?
Thanks!

yes- you can go to GoDaddy or a similar internet provider and purchase the domain name RyanDemaree.com. You then set up with the same provider to forward anyone that goes to RyanDemaree.com to your artists website.
I did it here: www.davedilli.com.

@ Dave- Hey! I really appreciate your feedback.
Could you give me a step by step process on how to do this?
thanks!

Your domain name registrar should have instructions on how to forward your visitors to your Artist Website, since it has to be done through them.

yeah, its easy to buy the new name and then ask them to forward it to the new site. name.com was so confusing to use they had to do it for me.

Make sure that you forward the address to your artistwebsites and not cover or mask it ... because I've heard the secure shopping padlock doesn't work right for some, plus some buyers look for that secure connection and wont see it if you mask with your domain.

Frank, now you have me wondering. If you don't mind, would you tell me if that is true or not with mine?

I do mask everything and it bothers me, wondering if it's the right thing to do.

Ryan,
I use FXDomains and have mine (donnaproctorart.com) forwarded to my AW site on FAA.
I just clicked where it said "forward" and put my AW link in. It was pretty easy.

I did mine on GoDaddy... It was really easy... I don't remember how it went exactly but I recall it was fairly straightforward under the domain management. You just forward the domain to your FAA site.

Chuck -- it has to do with the shopping cart. I don't know much about it, but just remember a discussion thread about it when I did have a domain, which I dumped them all since I've been on about.me. If you click on Toby's address though it forwards. Someplace on FAA it tells you this I'm sure, and if I find it I'll come back here.
Those of you looking for a domain I've used 1and1.com which is like Godaddy but I think provides better service. If you'd like a referral link send me a direct message, as I don't normally come back to these threads ... the link I have now is for a domain name at a buck for the first year. I get these through my nonprofit that needs a domain name more than my fine art.

You shouldn't mask. It's bad if people want to share your art.. They can't, they get taken to the main page

Thank's Abbie ...
Here is a thread that may help, not the one I was looking for but close:

Thanks a lot, Abbie.
After numerous attempts to reach "customer care" (what a joke!) I got thru to support at Yahoo and, after trying to explain and explain and explain to someone on another planet who barely speaks English what I wanted to do, I had the mask removed.
I'm glad I wasn't on an operating table, attempting to explain to the surgeon my symptoms. I would be dead.
Just a word of caution to all: Stay away from Yahoo Small Business.

The real answer is NO, you cannot change your AW site name. All you can do is buy a name at FXDomains or GoDaddy - or some place - and use that to forward to your AW site - but that name will not change it's always going to be that very long string of characters assigned by FAA.

Erm, yes, you can change your AW link but not the artistwebsites.com part. You can change the subdomain name though

Think I will go Donna's route and use https://www.fxdomains.com/domain-registration/transfer-your-domain/

Very interesting responses you guys, thanks!
Another few quick questions-
1. I am thinking it would also be good to have my own website separate from my FAA one that showcases all of my art, and separate tabs and whatnot, not just my 2D art. etc.
Is this worth it? How many of you have your own website separate from the FAA one you have?
2. My name is already taken [...my name isnt that common....] what sort of domain name should I replace it with? I feel like anything to do with my name at this point might come off as corny, seeing as my first and last name together are taken and throwing my middle name in there would look stupid!
I was thinking look for a popular word that semi resembles the work I make? like "morlock-cavern.com" or something like that. Morlock being the creature from H.G. Wells time machine. In general something like that.
What are you guys thoughts?
Thanks!

Chuck -- I went the Yahoo domain route about a decade ago ... seems things haven't changed .... back then I had to talk to someone in India who then had to coordinate the request with an outsource domain company in Australia...lada, lada, lada ...
I'm not sure about FX domains, but Godaddy and 1and1 own their own servers located in the USA ... I mean if we live in the USA and want a dot-com why go over seas ??
Ryan, I have blogs separate from AW but I no longer have a website. However, WordPress blogs can be converted to a website. I won't put the links her so to my profile to Follow me if you want to look at them.

You can use a landing page with a link to your aritstwebsite like I do with FASGallery.net
Most of the time I use the Twitter and Facebook buttons on the artistwebsite for promoting on FB and Twitter. I only use the FASGallery.net name for certain promotions. I do that because I can get feedback on where the click came from where if they click directly on the AW you have no way of getting that information.

Ryan, I've had a few websites and they are a pain to put together if you intend to add your own Paypal buttons and such.
Not so hard if links point back to FAA to handle the transactions.
In tracking down the phone number listed for FX Domains, I read that it is GoDaddy's listing.
Used for support by several "companies."
"Transfer your domain name to FXDomains.com now and start enjoying all the free extras! You will keep any time left on your current registration and we include a 1 year free extension."

Floyd == that is a beautiful landing page you have ... and really that is all you need truly. It reminds me of the landing page I use that I totally forgot to mention in my last post, and, Ryan you can forward your domain here or mask it like Floyd did .... but I would stick with the advise of Chuck ans stay away from the custom shopping cart.
