Stuff That Annoys Nature Photographers

Funny video created by Tony Northup. I don't have anything that resembles the gear he is using, but I do get some of these questions when I am out shooting, like, I am going on a vacation to 'name place here' and want to take great pictures what kind of camera should I buy, and I think my phone pictures are as good as yours.

That's pretty much how it is. Only worse.

Haha! I'm sure we've met people like this. "I like that your lens matches your outfit." It's pretty funny once you get past the terrible acting.

It reminds me of scouting out places at the Grand Canyon, getting up early and setting up your equipment before the sun comes up, and then a group of people climb over the guard rail, and walk out to where they aren't suppose to be standing in front of you.

she didn't do duck and squat. the camera limbo when people as they walk into your shot, finally notice the 10" lens sticking out of your face. and then do a sort of duck under the lens as if they won't be in the shot at all. i think it would be neat to make a movie of that. all the different methods people use to get out of the way if they do.

LOL, that's funny and it's also sad that it's true! My biggest annoyance is when I'm sitting at the eagles nest waiting for an eagle to come over the treeline bringing in a fish to the nest and a tourist comes up wanting to chat and steps right in front of my lens. So I get up and move to another spot and refocus on the tree line, and they come up and get right in front of me AGAIN. It's to the point now where I've instructed the husband, if someone comes up and starts talking or asking questions, HE is to talk. I don't say a word and quietly ease to the right or left while he picks up the conversation. I don't mind chatting with the tourists - in fact I kind of enjoy it and 95% of the ones I've met have been great. But so many want to stand in front of the lens! ARGH!

Mike: That duck and squat always makes my eyes roll. The worst ones are at car/bike shows. There's always a couple, one oblivious, the other noticing me and telling the first, who then does a quick hand wave and the duck and squat. Or the family who, as I am clearly setting up the shot, pose next to the car I'm trying to shoot while someone fiddles with their smartphone camera. Then they switch places. THEN they "see" me, do the hand wave and the duck and squat. :rolls eyes:

Well, to be fair, sighs, there was a great photo (large--in color) on the front page of The Times taken with a cell phone. I know what you mean, but I can understand where people are coming from. I have been taking shots since I was a kid and developed film in those reel tanks (loading them in the closet with clothes hitting me in the face). I have pro equipment, but it's discouraging what good shots you can get with phones.
