it looks like a pinterest clone.

it's a fake pinterest site, all goes to the pix resizer. you can type almost anything like random characters and it will find something. i think it's a scraper site.

I did an image search on one of my paintings that has had much activity here the past few days and there it was. So i put my name in the search and a bunch of my work is there.
@ Mike, I am not up to par with the computer. Other than my email, fine art america and RB, I never do anything else. That being said and at the risk of sounding ridiculously dumb- Is that a bad site if it is a clone site and would you ask them to remove your work? Thanks so much

Mike Savad

i don't think there is much you can do. where the money is for this site i don't know, but it's a scraper. you can try getting it removed, but it will fall on deaf ears.

Thanks Mike. Tomorrow I will write and threaten them. Perhaps if I yell loud enough?

Tell them they will wake up with the head of a dead horse in their bed.

I see they have several of my images up there too. The "take down" instructions refer to an address in Spain. I do like the dead horse approach!!!

Mike, looks like they hit the jackpot with your images!!! You're very popular with them!

I looked up half a dozen or so FAA artist names and all have a "presence" ... Marlene -- you have some very interesting images mixed in with your beautiful abstracts!

Roy Erickson

WOW! There's even some of my stuff on there - both photo's and abstracts - and if you click on one it takes you to http://imgite.com/

Phyllis Beiser

I just wrote them a threatening message in the contact us area. That is the only way that I see that you can contact them. It looks like they have just about everyone's work on there.....Abbie, your work is there too! I put several names of artist that I am familiar with and every one of them have their work on this site.

Phyllis Beiser

@ Roy, did you scroll down and read what that was. It easily re sizes any picture from a specific location....What's with that?

Bradford Martin

Sure just upload your full size images to their site. No thanks! (imgite)

Mike Savad

its just a scraper site.. personally i don't care. in order to take it down you have to find them all. impossible task to do, i'd rather do almost anything....

They have a page with info for copywriter infringement here: http://www.gopixpic.com/copyright.html
Did you read it?

James B Toy

HA! I typed my name in their search box and came up with lots of photos of James Bond toys!

Phyllis Beiser

Thanks Melany, I did go there and placed my domains on a "block list". Also demanded that my work be removed. We shall see!!!

A lot of mine are on there too, including a couple from my other sites and I don't like it. Will be following to see what Phyllis learns and what the rest of us can do.

Hi Phyllis,

So sorry to read about your troubles! It's everywhere all the time these days.

Lately, there is a sign that comes up on my computer screen just before I go on the internet. It's very faint, but reads as follows: ENTER AT OWN RISK.

Good luck sorting out your troubles. :-)

Mark Tisdale

I didn't look at this site exhaustively but if you look at the images, they are not actually hosting any of the images I saw.

They are returning the thumbnails from the search engine Bing.

i.e if you look at the image, the URL for the host is in fact bing.net and if you go to Bing and search images and check, the URL is the same. They are leeching bandwidth from Bing.

It is even possible that when you execute a search on this site, it's querying Bing for the results.

PS This isn't an endorsement of the dodgy site just a clarification that they aren't actively hosting the images there. IF you could find someone at Bing that cared, that might go farther than anything but I honestly couldn't find it in myself to care one way or the other. So many dark corners of the internet to ignore.

Thanks Phyllis, I added my domains, including Isabella-shores.artistwebsites.com and the sub domain on FAA to the banned domains...forgot to add pixels finearteurope etc.

And if so, Mark, unsure how they can ban domains

Oh they are sneaky! Now when you put my name in the search, nothing comes up but, when I put in pelican paintings, there were several of mine with the name removed and just labeled pelican paintings. Will have to search each subject after I get breakfast ready!!!

savad, mike savad, msavad etc all come up with something.

sfjhsfjsf random stuff comes up with the stuff. the site isn't worth bothering with, the machine there takes it, and any complaint will fall on deaf ears.

---Mike Savad

Phyllis Beiser

Mike, I think that they know exactly what they are doing because yesterday, under my work, it said such and such onto phyllis beiser. Today it says such and such onto pelican paintings. It looks like they are just trying to outwit us and still keep our work. I hope that I am wrong but that is what it looks like to me. I know that you are very experienced in these sort of things and I highly value what you say. Still, a bit strange the way things have changed over a few hour time period.

Phyllis Beiser

Mike, instead of Phyllis Beiser, which they removed in search, I put in Beiser art and got this.
http://www.gopixpic.com/beiser-art/

Mike Savad

they don't have a copy, they have a link. they can post what they want technically. you can file dmca's with them, i think there is a way to do it in google as well where they remove those people from their search. that's been popping up more and more as of late. but in the end you'll be chasing them forever. and i'm sure there are 100 other sites just like it.

you tell them to remove all of your work, but you would have to show them each and every image or they will just remove your name out as a filter.

The cardinals in my yard attack the window when they see their reflection. Chasing after this site and others like it is the same thing.

Phyllis Beiser

You are probably right Mike. Unfortunately, dishonest people make it very hard to fight them...That is until they met me! I will search this site from top to bottom no matter how long it takes and find every one that is my work and harass them in every way that I know how! I can not tolerate a liar or a thief! I may be wasting my time but will make their world very interesting in the next few weeks or so.
If we ignore sites like this all together, they will continue in their dishonest ventures and continue to multiply and prosper until we are all bankrupt, both financially and emotionally!

Bradford Martin

Since you are blocking certain sites and all they are doing is mirroring the Bing search results you just might be sending in a block request to Bing. It is not likely that they would know or care what you do.

Mike Savad

the fight you should have are the ones that steal it outright and use it in a commercial way. this is really just a pinterest like site and i don't think you'll lose too much with it here, there are countless others. you can't take them to court, and they don't have the image i think it's just a link to that image. best to focus on the art and if there is someone taking credit for it, then deal with it. you can make this an all day job. i've seen people go after everyone, but in that time they aren't making time for themselves. the best way to deal with them is to send something to google and deindex them. then few will ever find it.

i'm sure they won't care one way or the other what is removed. they will remove it for a month and put it back when your not looking. or use the images with new keywords. its not worth it. but if you want this to be your new hobby, go for it.

we aren't going bankrupt over this. and if you let it get to you emotionally, then that's no good either. i personally don't care if they have my image there. they aren't taking credit and they might find my image that they can reverse search out of there. i personally don't see the point of that site anyway.

Jane Small

Hello Phyllis, I know this is distressing to find your images where you do not wish them to be and have not given permission. However I do agree with Mike that this kind of thing is widespread and impossible to deal with and not worth losing peace over. Recently I found 13 of my paintings with changed titles being offered for sale as duplicated hand painted pictures on Amazon. With the help and advice of some wonderful and caring FAA artists I was able to get them removed. I think it is far more worthwhile saving your energy to get your pictures removed on sites where they have been "stolen" and are actually for sale. Although annoying,I do not think this site will cause too much harm. But if you do go ahead and fight it,I wish you success with that of course! We know this happens but it is always hurtful and takes us by surprise even though we kind of expect it. Hope peace will soon be restored! Jane Small

I didn't look at this site in depth as I said but all of the searches I did were returning the thumbnail images that are hosted on Bing.

I would add that none of those searches were for my name. I really don't want to give a scraper site any ideas for new subjects to scrape.

Asking for your domain to be blocked may just be adding a negative parameter to their search, or it could be doing absolutely nothing. I'm hesitant to contact shadowy sites like this and provide them my email address in so doing. Sounds like an excellent way to be sold to an email spammer. If I was going after this site, I'd bypass them and contact their host, except in this case, as I said, the images are hosted on Bing...

As Bradford suggested, when you chase these types of bottom feeding sites is a lot like battling your reflection. Maybe even more so when they are just serving up images/search results from a large search engine.

Phyllis Beiser

Mark, I am starting to see how they work. As stated above, now when I put Phyllis Beiser in the search box, nothing. Then I tried a combination of initials and so forth, like P. Beiser, Beiser, P.M. Beiser, etc., and the search yielded my work again. I also tried specific painting types such as pelican paintings, egret paintings and other subjects that I paint and they popped up again! It's like trying to grab wind...

Found this article that is very interesting on the topic http://www.rockymountainsearchacademy.com/2012/02/06/seo-basic-tip-006/

I saw my images there too under fosdick, ninafosdick, n-fosdick, nina-fosdick but they seem to be small low rez ones....not worth the hassle of removing.

If artists simply take no action regarding copyright infringement, it will become the accepted norm. Postings with links back to our websites are good for business, images disassociated with our commercial sites are not.

What I don't understand- if it's a pinterest site how can I be on it? I do not activate pinterest on any of my websites.

Dan Turner

To infringe copyright law you have to make a copy that was not authorized. If this is a case of hotlinking, all the site is doing is telling a computer to go visit the original version of the image, which the artist put there on purpose and has already given permission for anyone to view.

it's not pinterest but a clone. just because you turn of pinterest doesn't mean you:

a. won't be on pinterest
b. wont' be on a clone of pinterest (they aren't the only ones)

and your on it because it's taking search results and making it look like a pin.

Mike Savad

its a scraper site. they send a bot over here for example and scrape the keywords and make a site. they may cross it over with a search engine. they appear to have content like pinterest to show they are an active site, even though it's computer generated (pinterest did this same thing btw, thats how they were popular right away). there won't be any winning even if you think its removed. there are many sites like this one.

---Mike Savad

Phyllis Beiser

Lew, You will have to request Lew Davis, L. Davis. Davis art, L. Davis art, Lew Davis art etc.... Mike is correct in that they have every corner covered. It is a shame and I also do not like this!
I am taking care of one of my sons right now who was in a bad motorcycle accident and is trying to recover, but when I get a chance, I will send them notices to remove all of my work. I suppose I will have to dig really deep and find every way that my work is categorized. Right now, I just do not have the time or energy!

It would seem they have had complaints and I think one way we might be able to get Google to notice them and start sanctioning them is by registering your negative opinions here:

http://www.scamadviser.com/is-gopixpic.com-a-fake-site.html

There is a tab on the left hand side to let them know what you think.

Found out a way to report against http://www.gopixpic.com to google for sraping and spamming image resullts , causing lower ranks to original rights holders. I was also facing similar problems , so found you all to gather support in reporting against this site and thereby getting back our ranking and bringing a scrapper down to earth.

Please join together and send each of your spam reports to google, so the high ranking of a scrapper site will go down and save the original content owners.

File your complaints in Google's "Scraper Report Form" to report spamming sites,
