Major General Scam

i just got this in my faa email..... From:MAJOR GENERAL Reply Reply All Delete Next Previous To:John Kolenberg Subject:You can contact directly by email majorgeneralstephen@katamail.comMessage:My Dear Friend,

I hope this letter find you in good health.

I am requesting for your confidence and cooperation for the
business I am about to propose to you because of it nature
as being utterly confidential and top secret.

Yes, I know that a transaction of this magnitude/nature will
make anyone apprehensive and worried, but I am assuring you
that all will be well at the end of the day.

I want to establish a cordial friendship and business
partnership between us. I got your contact from your
country's Online Business Directory.

I will like to start by introducing myself properly to you.
My name is Gen. Stephen Townsend. I am a Brigade officer
currently in Afghanistan with the United States Forces in a
war zone for the peacekeeping mission due to the crisis in
Afghanistan.

We are not allow to use cellphone here in the military zone.
We only make use of radio message and e-mail communication
from the camp. I am sending you this letter through my
private email which is more secured.

I don't know how long we will stay here in the camp to
the rescue of the war because we are being attacked by
insurgents and suicide bombers everyday. During one of our
rescue mission, we came across a box that contains a large
amount of money that belongs to the revolutionaries, which I
believe they use it to buy weapons and ammunition, and it
was agreed by all parties that the money will be shared
between us. Out of the total of the Fund, my share was
$6,000,000 (Six million US dollars).

I am seeking for your help to evacuate my share of the money
to your country to ensure that my share will be safe in your
care until I complete my service here. It is not a stolen
money, and there is no risk involved.

I have made arrangements with a UN diplomat, who promised to
deliver the background to any destination of my choice.
I'll be making up for it with 20% of the total of the
Fund in the final completion of the project, while the
remaining balance shall be my capital investment in your
country. A passionate appeal that I make to you is not to
discuss this matter to a third party if you have reasons to
reject this offer, please destroy this letter as any leak of
this information will be too bad for me because of my
position as a general in the army. I chose to contact you
after my prayers and I believe that you will not betray my
trust. But rather take me as your own brother or close
friend. Although you may wonder why I am so soon revealing
myself to you without knowing you well, I will say that my
mind convinced me that you are a real person to help me to
receive and invest the Fund. I don't know how long we
can stay here, and I have survived two bombing

here, which is what led me to reach to you as a reliable
person to help me to receive and invest the Fund in your
country, because I'll be migrating to your country to
invest and start a new life as a soldier.

Conclusively, I wish you send me an answer immediately as
soon as you receive this proposal. Your urgent response will
be greatly appreciated. I hope my explanation is very clear,
but if you need further clarification, please send your
questions, I expect to hear from you soonest.

You can contact directly by email majorgeneralstephen@katamail.com

Best Regards

Gen. Stephen Townsend

This almost reads like it's intended for people in a third world country. "the remaining balance shall be my capital investment in your country." He's only 'got' six million dollars. That wouldn't cover the annual capital costs of repaving streets in Houston.

best i got was a phone call by an indian gent, whom i couldn't understand that well. and in a monotone, non enthusiastic voice said... congratulations, you just won 5 million dollars. and told them - put me on you do not call list... i suppose i could have screamed into the phone then hung up. but really...

anyway have you responded yet? this sounds totally real and reasonable. after all i don't know how email can get any more secure than this...

Ha Ha. Posing as an American General in a 'brigade' was quite original.

Who comes up with these insane scams? I wonder how many people fall for these scams.

I got 2MM from another general last year...now I feel ripped off...coulda had 6.

Nice creative and topical variation on emails from Nigeria and Burkina Faso wanting help moving the millions of dead relatives out of Africa ;-)

Alfred - I don't know about the sex there - but drugs is a real possibility.

I just got it too & deleted it, but good luck, Jeffery, if you decide to pursue it, but be careful with your credit card #s, etc. Most movies that start out on a premise like this result in at least one of the partners with a bullet in the back of the head.

Knew this was a fraud when I seen from MAJOR GENERAL.

Major Generals do not send emails to grunts like us. They have people that do that.

There are different versions but several million of these sorts of emails sent out every day.

To think that FAA members via their FAA email would be exempt is not realistic.

You can buy software that will glean email addresses from almost any web page. The more you pay the more sophisticated they are and the more webpages they can penetrate.

I got one too and just posted a question about it before I saw this discussion. It rang SCAM right off the bat to me. Didn't think I would see such a thing on FAA but guess they are everywhere!

As long as he promises to assure you then what can go wrong?? Haaha

The first thing I picked up was his terrible English and spelling.

These type things have hit my private mailbox loads of times. Send a copy to the FBI.

James Brunker has it right. That was my immediate thought as well.

What an old story! Does really anybody NOT know this mails from Nigeria? Next You will be asked for some hundred or more dollars for the complicated transfer or a notary or may be a new story. The second chance is to use Your account for money laundering. Forget it !
