Abstraction, A New Perspective

Abstraction, a new perspective
While painting the clouds in my current WIP, a realization struck me. This portion of the painting is very abstract. While true abstraction is supposed to be without form, the random and freedom of construction of the clouds must be simular to the process of painting abstracts. This portion of the WIP has been very relaxing; absence of the regiment of previous work. The whimsical nature of the WIP has given me an avenue for contemplation and an apiphiny. While not realizing in many of my works, I have used abstractions with out even identifying this fact.
If any of you have had such realization, feel free to share your experiences.
Thanks,
Drew

please reference where it is said that true abstraction is without form.
I'd have to read and understand why and where that comment came from in order to respond.

EDIT:
thanks for the clarification, Drew. I don't talk about abstract art. I do it. ;)

Yes. As Marlene asks. I will comment I believe abstract includes shapes...is that not form? Personally I believe abstract which includes all the design elements is at the core. I have read that some don't see abstract as an art that requires talent or skill unless the end result moves its viewer emotionally. On the contrary abstract requires skill with spacial organization and the use of the language of line, color, shape etc.....Its a language that the average viewer tends to pick up on unconsciously. The result may invoke emotion but it also may invoke thought. Its a succes if someone finds it attractive and interesting enough to spend time contemplating it. So those that make remarks of it requiring little skill or talent are just not educated

The reference is from my own experience with other artist and previous discussions regarding Pure Abstractions.
Marlene, feel free to do your own research on the matter and open your own thread to debate what abstract art is BUT the premise of this thread is as follows:
If anyone has had an epiphany while creating artwork that changed their perspective on a matter, please share.

LC,

Ditto,

I particularly like when abstract images have depth or dimension.

@ Marlene: "thanks for the clarification, Drew. I don't talk about abstract art. I do it. ;) "
No problem Marlene ;)
Just thought I needed to restate the intent of the thread. I know many artist have epiphanies and do art as a result. this is a little different. possibly do to a hypnotic effect from the abstract nature of the portion of the WIP mentioned.

Drew the second sentence you say"While true abstraction is suppose to be without form" I think those of us that practice this just wanted to say that it is not without form. As far as a discussion on having epiphanies while creating abstract I would say that I sometimes will create artwork in general because of an epiphany. Art can be meditative and relaxing.

NO art is abstract, or ALL art is abstract. Take your pick.

NO art is abstract, because all art represents someTHING in the real world, if nothing more than the physics (or physical consequencies) of how viscous fluid flows on a planar surface.

ALL art is abstract, because no art represents the infinite depth of its real subjects.
