John Haldane

My First Ever Solo Gallery Feature

ASHEVILLE, NC – Lola Salon and Gallery is very pleased to announce that Asheville creative artist John Haldane will be the gallery’s featured artist from November 8, 2014 until January 3, 2015. There will be a Grand Opening of John’s artwork on Saturday, November 8, 2014 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Lola Salon and Gallery, 60 Biltmore Ave, Asheville.

John’s love of Asheville and the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains is evident in the images he creates. From the people and places of downtown to scenic vistas and wildlife, John captures what is best about Western North Carolina. His art is unique: it is created using cameras, software, digital tools, and/or acrylic paints. Sometimes he will start with a photograph, sometimes with an idea, and sometimes dabbling on the computer. His art evolves in response to music, weather, or other stimuli. Each piece has a story behind it.

John is a member of the Carolina Nature Photographers Association (CNPA) and Kelby Media (formerly the National Association of Photoshop Professionals). He has also joined the Friends of the WNC Nature Center, the North Carolina Arboretum, the Great Smoky Mountains Association, the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation, and the Swannanoa Valley Museum. Supporting local people and businesses, and causes is important to him.

The Asheville Regional Airport featured six of John’s 20x30 canvas prints and Cheddar’s Restaurant in Asheville purchased 3 prints that are on display in their dining area. His piece, “Leaves in Ice” placed in a CNPA competition called “Abstract Appalachia” and hung in the Green Sage Café. One of his pieces also hangs in Pack’s Tavern.

John has also received other awards granted by various organizations. His artwork has been featured in fine art galleries in Arizona and North Carolina, and has been seen in calendars, books, and magazines including The Scenic, the Laurel of Asheville, The Writers & Artists Quarterly, COSTCO Magazine, Wild WNC News, and Camera in the Wild Magazine. He has had articles published in several of these magazines as well.

Lola Salon and Gallery opened in August 2001 with vision and utter optimism. The incredible Asheville community allowed them to grow from a three chair salon to the bustling beehive of activity that Lola is today, with 11 stylists, a makeup artist and two managers. Lola is committed to serving and supporting the Asheville community through their work and through featuring local artists in their gallery throughout each year. Each chosen artist is given space and time for exhibiting works and Lola extends hours for openings for art shows as well.
