Image Editing And Links

I thought I read all this somewhere but now I can't find it... I would like to clarify a few things...We can edit tags, description, prices...actually all words and check boxes EXCEPT titles without breaking links...I think that is true but not positive.

What about the image itself? I've been editing a few images and the first thing I do is make a copy of the uploaded image and edit that (incase I mess up) then upload the finished piece. I got to thinking I might be breaking links by doing that...even if the file name remains the same...it is a different file being a copy of the original. Mostly I just edit for a slight color correction but at times have changed the image size by adding a bit more sky or something.

I got to thinking I might be leaving a bunch of broken links. Also with regard to broken links...if a work is deleted obviously leaving a broken link where image has been posted...but what about searches? Will that link at some point disappear? Hope I have asked this correctly :)

Val - if everything is the same and you only edit the image, there is no problem.
I've edited and uploaded many images and replaced the old ones here with no issues.

you can edit anything you want. you won't break links, however if you uploaded it from a few years ago, the links would double hyphen, and when it's saved it's a single, that breaks the link. but it never hurt me any. if you change the title you break the link. the file name for the image won't make a difference. google will correct broken links, blogs will not.

Think of the title as the title for the whole page, not just the image. The whole page displays the image, the keywords, caption, etc. So you can change those at any time and the title to the page stays the same.

I changed a handful of titles last night, to specify some images that are optimized for printing on metallic paper. It was a risk -- as I know some of those links have been shared on my blog and other places around the web, but I'd rather break a handful of links than have buyers not be clued in.

Good thread topic, Val. I know a lot of members are confused about this topic; this is helpful info. :-)

Thanks Donna, Mike, Joseph and Wendy! I was thoroughly confused about this...how and what to edit...now I am only partly confused. I know I read the other day not to uncheck groups from an image...I was doing that because I thought I was resubmitting each time...like the FB and twitter check boxes do...and didn't want to annoy the admins. Now I know I was just removing myself from the groups.
