Setting A Birds Nest

I'm trying to use an old birds nest in a piece of art but I need to fix it so bits don't keep dropping off. Anybody got any suggestions what I can use? Preferably something I can spray it with.

Thanks Kate

Not sure whats falling off, but you can use a spray on glue or better yet use hair spray.

Better check laws in your state, in many places, especially national parks and wildlife preservation areas it's illegal to remove a bird's nest, or even feathers. I think it's federal law that makes collection of Eagle feathers illegal, except for Native Americans. Ditto for many bird feathers, and the personnel at a wildlife management area in north Louisiana told me it's illegal to take a bird's nest. I don't know about on your own personal property, but check your local laws. I have bird boxes, those nests have to be cleaned out yearly, and as far as I know that's legal, it protects the future residents from parasites like lice and such.

If it's legal, try clear spray paint.

Billy is right.

There are three birds that do not have federal protection. Starling, Pigeon and European sparrow. You can pretty much do whatever you want with those birds.

You may be able to posses feathers and body parts of birds not protected if they are a species with a legal hunting season and you have a license.

You also may be able to contact your local DNR and ask them if they can issue a permit to posses such items.

The odds of being caught may be very small but the fines can be VERY large if you are.

Kathryn,

Assuming you found this nest on the ground and it's a common bird and it was on your property, I'd use this stuff. I use it now for my framing needs,

Thanks everybody. I'm in England and can reassure you all I'm not doing anything illegal or that would harm birds. I found the nest last autumn when I was cutting back ivy in the garden so the birds had long abandoned it, nesting season has finished here by the end of August. I'm going to try out some spray glue. When I finished my bit of craft work I'll put a picture up - if it's any good.

Thanks again
