Book-matched Arbutus Wood/would Like Your Feedback.

I was trying to make some book-matched images of arbutus bark to show the way the peeling bark reveals the live tree and I intended to remove most of the shadow area. This is what came up with just flipping the full crop image and sticking two of them together.

I would appreciate your critique and also ask if any of you out there recognize whoever that is peeking out of the shadows...it ain't photoshop.
