Would You Like To Advertise In My Magazine?

Market share, distribution, market study. Probably things to consider. Playboy is going through a phase of trying to reinvent themselves again just to stay in business. Ratio of people who buy porn mags to overall population, means your target market is relatively small. Is your only distribution channel the internet? What is your distribution? If you are going to sell advertising and your distribution is 0, 10 dollars is a waste of money. Sorry to be debbie downer, but reality sucks. Not saying it isn't possible but you need to get some numbers going first.

It is not porn magazine but sensual. Meaning women posing nude in a sensual way towards artistic nude and not towards porn.

I am just a poor guy trying to spend my time doing what I like to do and give meaning to it. I wonder but I don't expect it to become profitable. First because it is a Magazine about photos of one photographer (me). Second because i don't have money at all to do search, invest on distribution and market study or hire a market team. I am doing everything alone using the tools available in the internet.

What I am looking for with this project is not actually money but get the feeling of acomplishement. Give meaning for the work Ilike to do. But if I get some money to help at least to buy articles or pay a model for the next edition it would be great. It is much better than arrive home afterva day in a crap job and spend my time watching TV, drinking or whatever. And better than spend my time trying to sell my photographs and see nothing happening.

If nobody think it is not worth spend money on a spece to advertise in my magazine, I can offer the space for free for those who think it doesn't hurt trying, some pages will have to be filled anyway.

And I hope to be able to buy good articles to make the magazine even more intessant and attractive reather than just have the photos to attract buyers.

What about naked men? Serious question

For many reasons it is more difficult, if not impossible Isabella.

1. It is much mure harder to find male models, specially the ones willing to pose nude. And I live in a town where even female models are not as easy to find as in more alive and big cities.

2. Photograph naked men is not the same as photohraph naked women.

I. Women are in and men are out. Even classic and renascentist peinting and sculptors have pictured the male body with a tiny falo to avoid it to become a distraction.

II. Male poses are much more limiting. If you go further a certein line it will look wierd and homosexual.

III. I have much more practice and experience with female models and female body posing and composition. If I would do with men I would need to learn and practice a lot about male body language, posing and composition. even lighting. (but then I have the issue from topic 1 again).

3. The public would be much smaller.

4. I don't find male body as rich in curves as female body. Male body are "square". I do really think it is very cool muscled male body, like bodybuilders. And I have tried hard photograph body builders but then again the issue from the firts item of this list.

I actually have some abstract nudes that might be good for your magazine marco.

Mini Market research. You could open a blog on wordpress if you don't have one and make a little survey. You could print out your survey and go to your nearest large town/city and ask people questions. Or hand them the survey. Have postcards or small examples of your work for them to see so you can get their reaction. 2) if you have your own website with c-panel or the like you can monitor your traffic. tell your advertisers how much daily or weekly traffic your site gets.

on the male nude thing there was an article recently in the nyt or new yorker about a pretty famous artist who paints/draws, himself actually. Portraiture is really not my thing but it was pretty impressive work. Gosh I can't remember the name. I'll post it later if I find it.

I just wondered as I have a male nude that is tasteful and could be of interest

You can send a traditional advertise with a big image and small key phrases or words on it. Or you can write a text looking like an article but with the purpose to sell your work, show or yourself. There is a name for this kind of advertise but I don't remember now.

After publishing I let you know and I send information about how many people have purchase the printed and online version. Plus the free ones I will distribute.

Why not couple? that way you has doubled your market already.
