How Often Do You Randomize Or Remove Artwork On Faa?

Hi All,

While FAA doesn't have a feature to randomize the position of one's artwork or galleries, I'm curious to know how often other artists here on FAA randomize or remove their artwork?

For what reason would u randomize an image?

I'm more likely to do the opposite. Instead of randomize, I like to go through my Galleries often (a few times per month), making sure the images are organized in a way that will make sense to viewers and potential buyers. (Keeping series and sets together, etc.)

I also like to move older images up from the back, to give them a better chance of being seen.

As for deleting -- rarely. I think I've deleted two pieces in the three years I've been a member here.

It's worth noting that gallery 'housekeeping' seems to encourage a flurry of 'bot' activity, which helps to index my images for the various search engines. (Google, etc.)

The habit if organizing is the key to success in almost any endeavor. I keep my images ordered by subject. The default order is by sequence of upload. Merely making galleries does not change the porfolio order. It is possible to get into a portfolio and browse without ever knowing there are galleries, so i make sure that the viewer will be seeing a similar image if they browse using the next and previous buttons. Sofar this seems to work well as evidenced by the pattern of views and the sales of similar work to the same buyer.

I sometimes change the order of the galleries. The gallery and default orders are constntly changing as i add new images and get them into order. I occasionally delete images that are not quite up to the quality if my other work.

There is a way to randomize the view. Just search by artist and set the sort to random.

Although my older pictures donīt represent my current style, I havenīt removed any. You never know what will sell. In my stock photography, Iīm surprised quite often, which image sells, and the one I find much better donīt.

Hi Peter, I agree...I wouldn't want my images randomized...I try to place them in a order that makes some sense when viewing and occasionally move them about that way. I used to delete a lot of work...but now never...I have been convinced by the others that this doesn't make any sense at all. Just make certain that each image is perfect before uploading.

You need more work , not less, and also more Tag words.

I never remove work, unless it is completely unprintable. Most of my recent sales have been stuff I posted 3 years ago.

I rarely remove images unless I decide it is not printable for some reason. ,( now that I am more knowledgeable about what is printable ) . I have also recently sold some that were posted 2 to 3 years ago. I do try to refresh my galleries from time to time by moving things around, and sometimes bringing older images close to the front. I have no set timetable for doing it, just whenever I seem to have a little extra time.

I rarely remove....and if it is not printable, it is still in my portfolio fr a purpose Ihave had private clients find a painting in my portfolio and commission me to do a redux Works out well for both!

I move and remove, and have renamed galleries so I can add new closely related images, etc.

Once I upload it that is where it is and that is where it is going to be when I die.

Really, I know I get myself in trouble for making comments like this, but it appears that some members of FAA would do well in the United Nations. They are known for spending 10 months discussing the size and shape of the table, the color of the wall paper and what kind of food they are going to serve. Then they spend 2 months to come with no decision after the actually get around to talking about the issue at hand.

People, please. Stop sweating the small stuff! Marketing is where it is at. Advertising and selling your work. If you do a good job at that, the order of the images will mean nothing.

When you upload the images, you put them in the proper gallery and that's it. Spend less time rearranging the deck chairs and more time worrying about the icebergs and you will be less likely to crash and sink.

If I am not mistaken, if you move images around or rename them that breaks all those links you have out there.

I may not be 100% correct on that. But I know I had to change something one time and all the links to that image had to be redone.

But that is really not the issue. The issue is I can make 50 Tweets and FB posts in the time it will take you to reorder all you images if you have any images at all to speak of.

That will likely lead to more sales then reorganizing.

Wow, thanks every one. I thought it might make an interesting topic of discussion.

L C, I was thinking for the purpose of keeping things fresh, from time to time. It's something that I think about every once in a while.

Thanks Conor, still working on it!

Looking at all of the comments, it's interesting to hear what every one has said. I think this gives one food for thought when uploading artwork.

Per Ung(norwegian artist) said to me: - I use to work all night and in the morning I would think I am a genius! But the the next day I look at my work and think. This is not a very good work of art.

I feel the same. Then I remove it from fineartamerica.

Hi Peter, I think for the purposes of keeping things fresh, mixing up the logo photo in each gallery is something I do about once a week or so. I also try to put the logo photo in the "0" position in each gallery so that if someone looks at my portfolio and is struck by a particular image, it'll be easier for them to get a better look at the full size. In that way, the galleries do get re organized.

I'm like Robert Wagner. I look at my work sometimes the next day and think, "what the heck was I thinking?" These days, I'm leaving the original work up and after I make changes to the painting via usually computer editing, I'll edit the image in FAA. That way if anyone happens to think my work is genius they can always get to it in it's raw form or evolved form. That probably doesn't make a bit of sense. I don't like it when I google my work and the link appears to be broken. That is not good business.
