Can someone tell me where FAA's prices are? With my own eyes, I saw a price list that shows exactly what their charges are before you set your own prices on top of that. I cannot find it. I know they charge around $7.00 for a small print, plus the $5.00. But, I do not know what their prices are for another above that first size print. I need to know
what their costs are so I can set my own prices.
So far no one seems to know what I'm talking about. But, I don't know how else to say it. I can't just come up with a price that I want. I need to know what the costs are above that.
Thanks

You set up your own mark-up. That is your profit on top of what FAA charges. You should be able to go to your photograph and click on "Show Price Details" to see a line by line thingie on how the price comes up to what it is.

There is a chart for the simple prints somewhere around on the site. I'm sure if you keep searching you'll find it.

Ellen,
Have you found your answer? I looked at your one image that has been uploaded and then prices that I see,as a buyer are, 24x36, $153, 26x40, $177 and finally, 32x48,$217. So the prices YOU see are your costs, if you bought the print yourself and the difference, is the mark-up or profit.
Under your price that you see when you're singed on as an artist, you'll see "Show Price Details" and if you click, you'll see all the info for your image, hope this helps,
Rich

Rich,
When I go to FAA, as if I were a buyer, and I type my name in the search bar, it shows nothing. No images.
So, I'd like to know how to find myself. You found my one image. I can find nothing on me.
Thanks.

All of you are so kind and helpful. Thank you. It seems that I will have other artists for my tech support, since you all seem to know the most about what's going on there.

Ellen,
Maybe it's the single image, but mostly, I would put my money on the fact that it was just uploaded, like today!!! At best, it takes overnight and overnight in the U.S., most nights. Sometimes the edits and new stuff sits for a day or so AND then gets added. This is a weekend and we'll have to see.
One thing most of us do, is add our name to the keywords, so in any search the image and your name will come up. And I can't get enough of seeing my name, either!!! Try it, Rich Franco! Just looks good, huh? LOL!

You are quite right Rich. It took overnight. And, that's a great idea. I will go back and add my name into the keywords, and thenceforth.
Thank you ! And thank you everyone for being such a great group.

Does anyone know the resolution of the printer they use at FAA.
Those of you who use Nik know that their sharpening software lets you choose the input and the resolution of the printer that's being used, which in this case I know it's an inkjet.
Many thanks.

And probably one of the 11000 series, that prints 64" wide......
I don't sharpen my images prior to upload, other than in Adobe Camera RAW,since the printers will sharpen to size.............

Sorry to hijack your thread here Ellen, but Rich has so many amazing images I couldn't possibly do them all justice in the time I have, so I'm showing my appreciation for great work publicly here. Great work Rich Franco.

I'm new here and this is the first time I've been able to find a link to a page that tells what the actual costs of the prints are. Are there any pages that have information about how to set up your site here on FAA, or how to set one up on another server and link into FAA to do fulfillment? I need a better overview, instructions. Thanks.

Jill,
What are you asking? How to set up your prices? It seems some of yours are all over the place, some too high and some too low!
Look at my price structure and see if that works as a starting point,
Rich

Jill - you'd use the shopping cart widget to put your shop into another website you build yourself. These are part of what you get for premium membership.
You'll find the code for various types of widgets you can use Behind the Scenes - Marketing - Shopping Cart Widgets
EVERYTHING is in the Behind the Scenes area - you should familiarize yourself with it.
For specifics on "setting up" - not entirely sure what you mean, ask or search the discussions and FAQs (under the About tab in the top menu).
Basically, fill in your defaults Behind the Scenes. Upload. Fill in keywords & description. Submit. Repeat.
Then start marketing yourself.

I only found this information here on the discussion board yesterday: from Rona Black Rona Black2 Months Ago http://fineartamerica.com/printondemand.html
Bingo!
I kept looking and looking a chart of what THEIR costs were, since they have this curious but effective method of having you price by how much you want in addition to their base...but couldn't find a chart or further explanation anywhere, certainly not in their "Behind the Scenes" area. This answered about half of my questions. So thank goddess for discussion boards. It also clued me in to the type of printer they use (hurrah for Epson "giclee"/inkjet) and to a chart of the frames they have for sale. But I still have a lot of other questions, and wish they had better set-up information (my complaint about everything from Facebook to Behance to Cafe Press). I had originally put in pricing amounts of the total that I wanted to charge, but have since changed that once I figured it out...but I definintely will check out your site Rich and some others to see what the ranges are. I've been getting prints for my friends who asked for them and finally got tired of doing fulfillment....this is definitely the right place to be for that.
So what I was wondering is do they have any similar, further instructions somewhere hidden on this site? For instance, last night I read somewhere here on FAA that your files must be s(RGB) or AdobeRGB (1998) and not ProPhoto RGB (most pro's first choice). I have mine calibrated to my screen with ColorMunki...none of the above...so do I need to replace them with files that have been recalibrated? I'm guessing that's a yes. What else do I not know, that is not on the Behind the Scenes page, that is important?
I did get a domain name and directed it to this site, thanks to my cousin who also sells his photos here, helping me with that. So jillbellphotography.com points here. I'm going to update my website at the beginning of next year and will figure out at that time how to just link in to the catalog (not a shopping cart per se) like he does, but meanwhile I'm happy with my own domain name and basically their only template choice for a site. I do wish they had other template choices, particularly with a Premium Package. Choosing colors and fonts are okay, but minor design decisions in comparison.
Thanks all!

And one more question: a friend immediately told me they can easily download my files via a single click of a button on their iPhone and sent me a few she'd done it to. While it wasn't full size (just 900 x 600) it is good enough for some people to make a print from and use. I sort of hate to put watermarks on them, but fear I will have to. Is there any work-around to prevent people from downloading our work? I know there are websites where the only way you can get photos (IMDB) is to take a screen shot which makes it much harder (and more deteriorated) to swipe them. Thanks again.

Jill,
I really don't worry about the color space thingie too much. I use a Canon camera and it captures in sRGB and then Photoshop saves it in AdobeRGB1998 and that's how I upload it. Take a file/image and try and find one with a neutral gray in it,like street or something and then convert it,back and forth from ProPhoto and see if there is any change, subtle, I wouldn't worry about. Remember, almost everyone buying stuff from FAA is probably using a screen that ISN'T calibrated!
As far as pricing, make a list of your costs from FAA for the sizes that you'll use and sell and then go to my site or some site with prices around there and then you can see what I/we mark-up the prints to, to finally come up with th total price a buyer will see. Then you can adjust your prices up or down,depending..........

Jill,
No one worries about stealing tiny files here. It happens and happens anywhere else on the Internet, just the cost of doing business,
Rich

There's a better chance that someone will steal a small version of a print than to pay 93 dollars for an 8X5,
9 Years Ago
I just clicked through on my page and can see it is saying $93 for an 8 x 5. I don't understand why, as I've set that for $20 over their cost which should be about $30± according to what I can tell. I'm going to have to go over all of the pricing stuff again....and again....until it shows up right (and will check what others are charging). I may have to clear the defaults and start over or something.
And I do worry about people stealing files....900 x 600 would make a good enough small print for a lot of people, particularly if it is free. I also make fonts and have had people pirate them, sometimes changing their name, sometimes not.... and give them away online or sell them in packages like "1,000 fonts for $10". While it is impossible to stop the continuing degradation of the value and concept of intellectual property and our creative endeavors, there is no reason not to fight it. It is becoming increasingly difficult to make a living in any creative endeavor because of the ease of copying and the lack of respect for the talent, training, time and money involved of creative endeavors. The music industry has it the worst I fear, but photographs are right up there. It should bother everyone...particularly if you are trying to earn a living.

Jill;
Don't get too concerned with people stealing files. Yes, it will happen and you can go crazy thinking about it if you let it. The people stealing files were not going to buy from you anyway. Do a reverse Google image search from time to time, send DMCAs or invoices. The goal is to sell your art. You can only do that by sharing it on line.
If you put it on the internet, anywhere, a small low res copy can be taken. Doesn't matter what is put up to try and deter it, there are always work arounds for the work arounds.
When you edit your prices, change your defaults... but you have to do a bulk price edit to change the ones you've already uploaded. Button is next to the default button.
Just put in what YOU want to take home from a sale of a particular size. Don't worry about FAAs end so much and it makes life a lot easier.
