New To This! Help Haha

I'm an artist and thinking of selling my art on this site. Everything seems super easy and I have a few question for people who have sold on this site before or use it regularly.

1. How does FAA make money? What happens if I want to sell my prints for 1$? FAA will print, frame, and ship to the customer and send me my 1$? Or do you pay some sort of fee once you sell a print?

2. I usually paint on a medium to large sized canvas 36'x48' or 24'x36'. Obviously I need to get a professional photographer to capture them, does he send me the large files so I can upload to the site? How big does the file have to be to look like the original? (with those sizes)

Thanks for the help
Cheers!

If you have not done already, please take our tour http://fineartamerica.com/tourfineartamerica/introduction.html ( http://pixels.com/tourfineartamerica/introduction.html for Pixels users) as that will answer most questions you may have about the site
Then read our Terms of Use http://fineartamerica.com/termsofuse.html ( http://pixels.com/termsofuse.html for Pixels users)to make sure you understand what we require of you and what you may require of us ;)

You will need PayPal to receive payments and the images will need to be of printable quality before you upload

They need to be under 25mb and jpg or png. Adobe RGB or sRGB Images should be over 800 pixels but there is no maximum size. If the images are over 25mb then you can shrink the image down slightly or compress down to 10. Never upload enlarged images (that is making the pixels more than you have normally) as we will probably not pass it in QC if you sell.

All members should read this thread http://fineartamerica.com/showmessages.php?messageid=432109 ( http://pixels.com/showmessages.php?messageid=432109 for Pixels users)

Please note that we do not do ANY quality control unless you get an order, so you must make sure the images are top quality before uploading. You do this by 'VIEW'ing the work in your editor at 100% and going over it completely looking for blurriness or blockiness.

If you wish to test the quality of the prints you may buy your own work at base cost

When logged in you are seeing the prices you would pay if you wanted to buy your own work so do not panic if they are lower than you have put in :)

Basically, all you really need to do is decide what YOU want to earn and then put that in the spaces provided

When registered and logged in, on the top right menu there is a drop down with everything you need for the site

BEHIND THE SCENES is for all the tools you need to set the site up and PROFILE is where your site is.

Here is a great post on the forum about marketing your work http://fineartamerica.com/showmessages.php?messageid=1601966 ( http://pixels.com/showmessages.php?messageid=1601966 for Pixels users) Sales do not happen overnight and you need to be working on getting people to know you are here.

I think that just about covers what most new people ask. Hope this helps. If you read this and have any specific queries please let us know by opening a new thread with the subject clearly marked as the question :) Alternatively you can find SUPPORT under the ABOUT tab in the top menu. Customer Support is for when you purchase prints and need help. Technical Support is for artist members and account and usage help

Oh yeah... here are the rules of the social area, http://fineartamerica.com/showmessages.php?messageid=260080 ( http://pixels.com/showmessages.php?messageid=260080 for Pixels users) and the Moderators are linked at the top of that page

The sizes depend on your pixels. Unlike other sites we never crop or skew images to fit standard sizes, instead allowing the artist free scope to just upload what they have

The only limits we have are that one of your dimensions is going to be forced to fit the following list:

8"
10"
12"
14"
16"
20"
24"
32"
36"
48"

The other dimension will be scaled proportionally to maintain the aspect ratio of your image.

We only need 100 pixels/inch (100ppi) in order to have a nice image for printing. That makes the math easy as well. Your image menu can be viewed as a pixels/inch ratio, and you can see how many inches wide by tall your image is. ie 10000 would be 100" 1000 would be 10"

if you sell it for a dollar, that's all you get. this site makes the money it tacks onto your price, along with accessories, and tuition to be on this site. a customer buys your work, you don't have to do anything but post a stellar piece of work, that is free of noise and isn't stretched. they send it to the customer. you get paid. done. you can only post 25 images, until you pay the $30 then you can post what you want. but you have to do all the advertising.

you have to work that out with the person you go to. he would have to give you the files. but scanning works well too, and with a stitching program and time you can make your own image. we print at about a 100dpi for the largest size. to make a 72" print, you need at least 6200px. to make a 36" you need 3600px or so.

Mike what do you mean stretched.

it means scanning a large painting by sections and afterward using the stitching programs to stitch the images together.

stretch means that some people take a picture with a camera, then enlarge it to a huge size. they don't look at it up close, and its totally stretched out of shape. they won't print it because it lost its detail.

So if I upload a 6200px Photo FAA can use the photo for every size print up to 72"?

Only if you decide to put profit margins in the boxes next to the size. Ultimately its up to you what sizes you offer and what profit margin you want. FAA has already build in its profit.
