Close to 20 years ago I was gallery hopping with some friends in Soho in Manhattan. There's a building at 560 Broadway which had dozens of galleries. At one of them we noticed that the walls had been painted beige, which was extremely unusual at the time as most galleries were white or a neutral shade of gray. There were a few people looking at what appeared from the doorway to be blank walls. Moving in closer we were able to see that there were large canvases attached to the walls painted in the exact same shade of beige.
On each canvas, in a seemingly random location, the artist had placed a single drop of color, about the size of a pinprick.
That's when I learned that a good artists statement was wore important than the art itself.
