Photokina 2014

First time I've heard of this, John. Sounds very exciting. And I've never been to Cologne. Maybe in the future for me...

Way above my pay scale! I had a friend go a few years ago and he said it was like a city! He had scheduled 2 days and that wasn't enough! You can spend hours just at one booth,Canon or Nikon,seeignwhat's new and then the "How to" shows that everyone has! New lenses,cameras,lights,etc. Live models and displays every where!

Printers giving out huge prints, for free of your image, on their new or improved printers!!!

nope; was interested in the Nikon D750; will wait for some real life reviews before I make up my mind but I'll probably invest in lenses rather than in a new body at this point. Anything in particular you are eying John? Think there was a new Leica S being announced...

Haven't decided if I am going to go yet or not. I will I Hamburg and Amsterdam while it's going on so I might drive down. If I go I am primarily interested in the Leica products. I heard they might release a S with CMOS sensor. Maybe a new mono or some limited edition M. I don't even think canon is in the photography business anymore. Video yes, high end photography, ehhhhh. But I will see.

Would love to join you John - Cologne is my hometown! The trip from Amsterdam is only 2 hours or so and the Photokina will be so worth it - and Cologne of course too. Make sure to take in the Koelner Dom!

As you may know, any of these big shows are looking for photogrpahers that are "important" to the industry and can influence other artists. SO,make sure you have some nice business cards,especially if you get to the show early in it's run and then "you'll" get special gifts,from under the booth's tables, things that they would just hand out to the "lookie Lou's"!

Well, I never made it down to Cologne even though the event is still going on. None of the announcements interested me that much to make the trip. I did hot the Unseen Photo Fair in Amsterdam which was really amazing. So many galleries and photographers there. Talk about seeing some incredible photography.

2 announcements from Photokina that I found interesting were (1) new digital Leica M with no LCD; and (2) whitewall printing offering custom mirrors with images that can be UV printed onto them.

I'm booked for the NYC show at the Javitts center in November..but not Photokina.
