Never Satisfied

I've been so happy with my Bigma 50 - 500mm. Easy to get sharp hand-held bird shots, smooth zoom, all I thought I'd ever need for wildlife photography then Sigma has to come out with the 150 - 600mm sports lens. Waaaa!

Life just ain't fair.

Kathleen,

You know, if you buy this, they'll come out with a 200-750 a week later!!! LOL!

The extra 100 really isn't worth the worry,

Rich

You're right, Rich and that makes it a little easier. There's no way I can even think about spending money on equipment or anything else right now. Need to make gas money stretch for 7 weeks on the road with enough left over to buy ice for the cooler. I am so broke!

It will probably be pretty weak at 600mm, at least wide open, just like the Tamron version from what I have read.

I have the Sigma 150-500mm and love it. This new one would be tempting. I found on the UK site it says £1599.99 for pricing...which translates into $2602.86 US Dollars. Ouch. For just a few hundred more $, I could get the Sigma 300 F/2.8, which for my "low light" needs, seems like it would be a better choice for an additional lens for me. I think I'll keep saving for the 300 f/2.8.

Electronic technology is the new 'Joneses'.

You'll never keep up. ;-)

You are so right, Wendy. I don't even look at the high-end stuff. I just got an entry level full frame and I'm nauseated just thinking about paying for it even though it's one of the cheapest models. And of course it required proprietary batteries, plate, cables, etc. It never ends. I just want a good, reliable setup that will last me for years without any need to constantly upgrade.

I read about the new Sigma today, too ... I'm awfully happy with my own Sigma 150-500mm ... I'm not even considering upgrading. Kathleen, you're right about your goal of a good, reliable setup. That's pretty much where I am, too. But oh, it is tempting to DREAM about the new stuff when it comes out ... and imagine ... sigh ...

And yet they keep telling me that size doesn't matter...

And you believed them, Floyd?
