Walter, not the list you mention above for sure .Lol
I enjoy discussions that allow free flow of Ideas and ideology especially as it pertains to art or freedom of expression in art or any other thought provoking art subjects, but it's difficult to discuss always worrying if you your going to cross over the religious line and political line. I like discussions where not everyone is agreeing to the same thing and saying the same thing in just a slightly different way, diversity is the word I was looking for, diversity is what makes a thread interesting.

LOL, Melany.
Mike is certainly not in EVERY thread! But lots of them.
And while I sometimes agree with him and his positions I often disagree.
That said, Mike certainly does have a way of adding---at the very least---a certain interest to any discussion he enters.
He is outspoken, and while often seen as a bit harsh, I salute him for remaining true to his convictions.

Oddly enough, I enjoy the ones that don't pertain to art at all the best. I love hanging out here with other artists, but it gets old talking shop all the time.

Aside from art subjects which I enjoy because I don't know many artist outside of here, I enjoy the subject of food, because I like to eat and cook and share food, plus it's the one subject that I don't have to worry about offending anyone.lol

I think the broader the subject, the better it is. A couple of examples are Coastal Sunsets ()mine), Winter landscapes, and Windows, all of these are broad, and allow the artist room to show what they took, without having to fit a tight realm. I think the ones for just photographers, or just painters, or if someone had something like "Snow covered trees" close the thread too much and limit them and the creativity.

Any and all of them -- if the general topic interests me in the first place.
I prefer threads that feel like typical, real-world conversation between friends and/or colleagues. In the real world, things tend to wander a bit or grow as the participants and time increases. That usually happens without undue over-sensitivity or rancor, and without turning into flame wars or harsh hand-slapping.
Some of my favorite memories are of sitting around a table or room, in someone's home or an all-night diner, sharing opinions, information, and good humor with people I'm comfortable around. On the rare occasions (usually involving someone's over-indulgence in alcohol) when things turn bitter, angry, obsessive, insulting, or one person tries to dominate in a heavy-handed and/or intrusive way, I'm the first to say "Gotta go!" and hit the road.
I do the same in these forum discussions.
Interesting threads?
People are what they are; they can't always be fascinating. Sometimes they just want to say something, hear something, or ask something. Having that need met may be interesting to them and not to you. That's the normal ebb and flow of a discussion board.
This comment, for example, is longer and more involved than I intended; does that make it more boring or more interesting to readers?
I don't know -- I just shared what was on my mind. It's easy enough to skip over if someone doesn't find it interesting.

The best threads - those that hold my clothes together.
OH - not that kind of thread. Well, this kind of thread IS interesting - ones about art - few that are about camera's - themed art threads that interest me or that I can participate in - and about everything that Wendy said. (and Wendy - makes it interesting). When I get bored with a thread or fed up with it - I abandon it.

The ones that go off topic. Meandering around, & getting to enjoy little snippets of each Artist's personality and lifestyle.
Loving Jani's " Untalent" thread right now.

"...Question. What makes an interesting thread. "
I'll usually take a peek at most, not all, threads to see what they're about, and if interested, I'll participate. There are also threads that I may find interesting, but if I see one or two people that always seem to show up, just to cause problems as it normally happens, I won't post in it, and will move on to something else. If however they show up in a thread that I'm already engaged in, I ignore those particular people now.

I like the conflict threads and I especially love how Abby and Jeffrey referee them. Like Greg, I don't want to get involved in the conflict. Artist's are usually passionate people so it makes sense that they would bicker, have strong opinions and tell each other where to go. I call it a smack down and it's entertaining. Helpful hints from experienced artists are interesting threads as well The only threads I don't read are "post your sales." Those threads just don't apply to me.

Hi, Lisa. I too like threads that offer a bit of contention.
Yet they often turn toward the quarrelsome, wherein some folks simply bust out the popcorn and sit back to watch.
(In current internet terminology this is known as “lurking”. Which in not to say that I think this is a bad thing. It is simply a fact of life in this day and age.
As well: Many of these threads make an already difficult task even more difficult for the moderators here. And, in my opinion, this increases the chances that some comments may be misunderstood.
“Oddly enough, I enjoy the ones that don't pertain to art at all the best. I love hanging out here with other artists, but it gets old talking shop all the time.”
I agree, April.
Wendy, I found your remarks to be well founded, articulate, informative, and reasoned.
I agree. I thank you for contributing to the thread. I hope it will add to making this thread a bit more interesting.
:-)

I suspect this is one of the reasons that reality television continues to garner a large audience.

The threads I find most interesting are the discussions where people manage to make their points without posting external links or videos. I'm afraid that probably leaves me in a minority of one, but I find videos especially to be conversation killers.

Your suspicions are off, Walter, but thanks for the thought. I have not watched t.v. in a year and when I did, it was the history channel or natgeo. Can't say that I've ever been the least bit interested in a reality show. I have my own reality playing 24/7.

The most interesting threads are when people listen to each other and offer honesty.
The most uninteresting ones to me are the pity party cries for attention.

When ideas are discussed. When debated based on reason is undertaking with moderators moderating without rendering opinions.

The best, best, threads are the ones when some one goes on a rant and amongst all the ranting actually spews some profound truths before getting carried away by the moderators to the looney room in a strait jacket.Lol

"Sales up"?...
Possible answers:
"Yes" or "No"... ("Yes, my sales are up"... "No, my sales are down")
"Sales down"?...
Possible answers:
"Yes" or "No". ("Yes, my sales are down"... "No, my sales are up")
It's the same thing.

This is an interesting perspective, Drew.
I will say that more often than not Abbie does make sure to inform the members when she is voicing a personal opinion, yet not always.
And this is fine. I don't make the rules here. As I understand it the owner of FAA makes the rules. Which is certainly his prerogative, and I respect that.
Yet your comment, Drew, generated a chain of thought in my mind which produced this:
Referees in a football game only make lodgement calls regarding the rules. They never voice---at least not in public---any opinions.
While I will reiterate that I do mot make the rules here, if I did, I would make any moderator here a paid employee and make sure they deferred voicing any personal opinions on any of the threads.
Please keep in mind these are only my personal opinions, based on my personal observations. In no way should these statements be construed as denigrating, or disrespecting any moderator, administrator, or staff member of FAA, including of course the owner of the site.
I am merely voicing my own thoughts.

The sales trends threads are interesting when people who have a track record of sales provide insight into how the market is trending. People without any sales history chiming in with "I've been here 30 days and haven't sold anything" doesn't add anything valid to the discussion.
Thanks Walter. Unfortunately trolls are alway on the lookout ready to ruin a good debate by antagonize polar opposites.
FAA's moderators do better than most and they listen also; but they all have a horse in the race.
