Social Media Manager's Are Leaving Facebook.

This is not your typical " is it time to leave Facebook? " article. The conclusion I think is sound advice. The reader comments I think are interesting. What do you think?

I haven't read the article. But I wont quit facebook because I keep in touch with many of my pals on facebook (since i don't see them face to face or call them on the phone). Facebook is still very appealing to me for the above reasons.

I have started to move away from Facebook business-wise but am still on there for my clubs and other things.

Saying that though, I will not leave it entirely and will still have art going there as I got a new commission from someone seeing my latest upload here

Good for you Abbie!!

I've done the opposite, it seems. I have reduced the posts to once per day on my Artist ( public ) page. I have otherwise cleaned out my personal account profile and posts, just leaving the contacts, and haven't been there in a few months.

I just left a comment on the thread there: Seems to be a total lack of objectivity there.

I still sell artwork on FB. That is the only thing that counts for me. I see these people that are in the business of selling social media instead of using social media and I always question their motivation.

FB is going through changes all the time. You either figure out a way to work with them or move on. So far I have seen no reason to move on.

Within 24 hours of posting the artwork of Debora Hiatt the other day I sold a set of those prints from my eBay store. I get the data to be able to verify that is where the seen them on FB. (Something we do not get from FAA and why I mostly advertise my eBay store and not FAA.)

Two weeks ago I posted several Martin Grelle signed and numbered, limited edition prints on FB. Monday I got an email via my eBay store asking me if I was the guy with the Grelle prints. He ended up buying a $2250 prints. He is also looking at a couple other Grelle prints.

So, I doubt I will be leaving FB any time soon.

I'm on facebook ONLY for groups/clubs that I belong to. I was going to open a fan page - got stopped dead in the water when it wanted yet another avatar - cause the one I use here ain't big enough.

If Facebook didn't exist, I wouldn't have the business I have now. I'd probably still be working a crappy retail job.
I met some local crafters through there, who got me doing shows, who introduced me to everyone they know, who wanted me to take pictures of their products, their families... and now I work for myself. I'll use it til it ceases to exist.

I think like most avenues, it's merely one tool to use, and one outlet for marketing and such. Shouldn't be relied on exclusively. I will continue using it, I think there's a place for it. But it'll be interesting to see what the landscape's like in 2-3 years... whether it's completely died off, etc. I think currently it's still viable though.

Seeing as how the article is on LinkedIn, I get the feeling its conclusions would be a tad biased against their leading competitor.

I may ease off of it at times but I have no intentions on leaving FB altogether any time soon.

I won't quit FB but I do not pay to advertise...FB I think is still as big as it gets. I forgot all about MySpace... are they still there...don't here much about that anymore and I think I have an account...or I did. I use it mainly to keep in touch. It hasn't help me to sell anything but who knows...it could. After reading that post I still am not certain what was the point ...to use LinkedIn instead?
