The Untalent Show

Recently, I went to a party that featured unusual gifts and abilities. One lady shared her ability on how to fold a fitted sheet. In my mind, that's talent. I could never get those folded right until she showed how she does it.

Here's one of my unusual talents:
I can catch a fly with only my left hand. It's a catch and release type of thing. Catch it, open the door and toss it out the door still alive. Yah, I'm ninja like that.

Share one of your unusual talents.

I write forwards and backwards with both hands, same time.
I also write upside down and backwards.

A few more people and we can take the show on the road!

Awesome gift, Marlene. Do you also paint that way?

Marlene Burns

nope..I am a full on leftie all the way! My right hand is pretty much just a paper weight.
My granddaughter inherited this untalent....one night in the tub, she grabbed a soap crayon and wrote hi grama" upside down for me o read...she was about 4 at the time...I loved it!

So....with such a diverse group of people on faa forum, can it be we are the only two weird ones, Jani?

i have supersonic hearing but it isn't as cool as ambidexterity or lightning reflexes.

Mike Savad

i can pick things up with my toes with a might grip. i could probably break a pencil if i wanted. but that's bad luck. i can fold my tongue like a straw.

i can fly. but just for short distances and only down.

The freak show is forming!
Mike, funny about flying...that could be our grand finale.

I can drive just about anything with wheels, and/or tracks. Haven't flown yet though.

Marlene, sometimes I think I'm the only weird one in this world until I talk to other artists. Nothing like comradery in my weirdness.

That's cool, Kim. I use to say my mom had bionic hearing and vision. Couldn't figure out how she new about things me and my brother did when she wasn't home or when she was too far away to know. She used to say, a little bird told me.

Mike, gravity's a beeatch. You reminded me, I can fly in my dreams, but only when people aren't looking.

Here's another one of my skills. I can tell when someone is drinking out of the milk carton from several rooms away and call them by name. Everyone does it differently. It's probably something I inherited from my mother.

I have that rare ability ( call it a 6th sense if you will ) to detect when the cat box needs changing.
I know it must be rare, & apparently it is not genetic - because no one in my family shares it with me.

I also know where things are... when no one else does. I can pick objects out of a room - when no one else seems to be able to locate it.
Uncanny.

I know I should feel proud to be so privileged, but it can be exhausting sometimes.

P.S - I can also speak in tones that are inaudible to the human ear.

Marlene Burns

jani, I fly in my dreams too..usually just at an altitude of 3-6" tho
Haha, Janine! You are a mom!!!

Janine Riley

I have heard that there are others like me. ; )

Just yesterday I heard my son say " I can say the same thing all day long - & it's as if they don't even hear me..."

( I chuckled, & didn't say a word. I think he can hear me now )

Bob Galka

Janine.. your family, I am sure would say that you a total expert at sarcasm... ;O)

Kim Bird

Well, to me, Janine just said she can find her keys. that's a superpower.

Janine Riley

Bob - : )

Ok, let's see - if I do have unusual talents - it is being a pretty darned good estimator. I can usually tell the time of the day by the location of the sun - within minutes.

I can pick through a pile of invoices & pull out #437 if need be. With Real Estate I can usually gauge the sales price within $3000 .

I probably should enter those jelly bean counting contests.

Marlene Burns

I can open a box of mixed chocolates and pick the one I will have to spit out.

Jani Freimann

Hahaha, Janine.

My Aunt can pinch really hard with her toes and it really hurts. She's my mother's sister. Hmmm...weirdness runs in my family. I need to make sure I trip it when i see it.

I can spell pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis. And I know what it means.

Mario Carta

Janine, I have a big dog that like you, catches flies, but in her mouth and then she eats them. As for me, I know one good card trick.

Janine Riley

I betchya Jani can spit out that fly faster than Marlene can spit out the chocolate with the lime green filling.

April wins a gold star.

I am loving this thread. I too have the ability to pick things up with my toes. I can also move my 2 middle toes on my right foot separately then the rest to do the "quotations" symbol with them lol. Now if I could just train them to flip someone off...

I have the ability to make people tell me their entire life story, while on an elevator, in a public restroom, or waiting in line. ;-)

Oh . . . and I always know what time it is, within a few minutes. Even after waking from sleep or anesthesia. (Someone once tested me, in an OR recovery room.)

April Moen

I can also make myself sneeze by looking at a bright light.

Thank you, Janine! I will accept that gold star. ;)

Roy Erickson

MOST of the time I can keep my mouth shut - and stay out of trouble - the problem with that talent - it's just MOST of the time - and I inherited my dad's temper -- if nothing else.

Phyllis Beiser

I, like Mike have a genuine talent for picking things up with my toes. Also, I have an unusually flexible joint in my hips so that even if I lean my weight to far on one side, it pops out of joint..I used to be able to put my feet behind my neck but am afraid at my age, I will get stuck like that if I tried...Pretty gross!

We were at the zoo. A lady pal of mine was about 15 feet from me. I told her to throw a marshmallow at my face and I would catch it between my teeth...She tossed it and I caught it between my teeth!!!

I'm no magnet...I just can't shake them! lol..but thank you, sweet Jani.

I can tell you "who done in" in just about any TV crime series usually within a few minutes. Some times in less then a minute.

I have about an 90% accuracy rate. Shows like Law & Order, Blue Bloods, most of them. I can do the same thing when we go to the movies. Usually takes a little longer on a movie because they spend a lot more time developing the plot because the have more then just 30 or 60 minutes like on TV.

Recently the club I belong to had one of these dinner theaters. Five minutes into I announced who did it. I nearly got my self killed. The next time the had one, they told my wife to leave me at home unless I promise to keep my mouth shut. I was real happy to stay at home. But I gave my wife two names and I said it will one of these two. I didn't even know what the name of the skit was, but I was right.

I wish I could do that for football or baseball...

April Moen

Jani, I was a 10 month baby, too! Was due at the end of April (hence the name), but was born the first day of June. My parents were sure I would be born in April because my brother had been born a couple of weeks early and they thought I would be too, but when I stubbornly refused to come on time, they decided to keep the name they'd already picked out for me. They didn't like the name June.

Marlene Burns

wow, April...you were born at a cool time.....where else in the calendar could you have had a choice of three traditional names???

April Moen

Marlene, in a rather funny coincidence, I dated a guy whose last name was June in high school. I didn't think I'd ever hear the end of it! If we had gotten married, I think I would have had to legally change my middle name to May. LOL!

My untalented talents are mostly useless, but since I now have a bad back, I need to develop new talents of doing things differently, without using my back so much. Any suggestions?

Sydne Archambault

How about your tongue Gene?

He has a bad tongue also! He was always told to watch his mouth, which isn't an easy thing to do.

Marlene Burns

The problem is, he's still trying to lick his elbow and he sprained his tongue

Gene Gregory

Thank you for the comments & suggestions. I do have a bad tongue. I washed it a while back, & now I can't do a thing with it.

I hear music when none is playing. Not really crazy, there is a name for this talent.

Jani Freimann

That's cool, Marilyn.

April, one more thing we have in common. We need to live closer to each other.

I recognized famous peoples voices very well when I hear them from another room. I can tell you what movies or shows they were in and a little about their lives, but have trouble with their names.

Sydne Archambault

Well then Gene you are up the creek with out a paddle or skipper.

April Moen

Jani, are you going to move or should I? ;)

Jani Freimann

I used to live in your area. I like it better here. So you move. ;-)

Jani Freimann

The banana split talent is pretty cool.

Who can grab the right sized food storage container for leftovers the first try and not have to get a different size cuz you chose one too big or too small?

Marlene Burns

better yet, who can find the right sized lid for ANY container??
I honestly think the lids end up where the odd socks that run away from their better halves go

Janine Riley

Marilynn - I hear the music in my ears too. Too bad I do not have a "musical ear" or I would jot the melodies down. Happens late at night, when the house is all quiet.

Jani - Sam Elliot's voice will stop me dead in my tracks from whatever I am doing & cause me to wander over to the TV like a Zombie .
My husband will look at me & say " Glass of wine dear ? "

I remember voices wayyy better than I can recall a face.

Lisa Kaiser

Once a month or two, I throw out every plastic container due to the lid problem. I think they melt in the dishwasher when I'm at work.

Gene Gregory

Janine.......some folks say I sound like Sam Elliot.

Lisa...... Tis true a dish washer will melt or warp those lids. I use empty plastic peanut butter jars in my studio, ( brush cleaner, etc.) but I have to was them by hand.

Patricia Strand

Time for me to revisit this fun thread again! Marlene, you can find those lost socks stuck to your fitted sheets in the linen closet. The hide in the folds!

Speaking of 10 month babies, my mother had babies less than a year apart, so she called them her "Irish Twins." Sorry if that is a derogatory term (?), but she had her hands full, that's for sure.

I just thought of another one of my untalents: I can gain five pounds just by looking at a piece of chocolate cake, I swear!

Marlene Burns

Loved your last comment, Pat! lol.

Gonna go look at something for lunch and then eat it cuz I'm gonna get the calories through my eyes anyway

Janine Riley

Gene- Lol. Are you those some folks ?

Gene Gregory

OK

Jani Freimann

Patricia, that explains why it is so important to know how to fold 'them' fitted sheets properly.

That was a fun show folks. Until next time. :-)
