"font Love" Image Themed Thread

I have discovered fonts and find them fascinating to work with. The design possibilities are endless!

Please put your best font images that have a quote (with a picture perhaps) or as a design. This is for everyone, painters and sketchers too!

Include a comment or two about your image and feel free to include a comment about someone's image in the thread if it inspires you. I'm sure they will appreciate it.

I don't think there will be overwhelming image additions to this thread so go ahead and enlarge your images so everyone can enjoy them!

I'm a bit obsessed with fonts... I've been making Christmas cards like crazy. Not uploading them here, but will be selling them at shows.

Heather,

Those are darling, I'm sure they will sell! I want to make some more tonight!

I've recently been inspired by the theme song from "The Sound Of Music."

I've sold a couple of them. I do a lot of graphic work on the side... logos and design stuff for other small businesses, and word graphics for a friend who paints old wood from barns she tears down herself. My font list grows a mile a day.

Heather,

Neat! I can just imagine your list, I'm lov'in fonts now! I'm in love with your images! I'm just learning Illustrator, the possibilities!

This is my only bit of typographical art so far. Will have to add more sometime. Y'all's work is inspiring! :)

April,

Thank you that's a real compliment coming from a graphic artist! Love the revival tent, very colorful with a lot of fun detail, has a professional look to it. You obviously know Illustrator, I'm jealous!

Kevin,

That is an awesome image!

I just have three but want to do more. What affordable programs can you guys suggest?! Mine were done in Smart Photo Editor but that is definitely not geared to working with type so much. Well, I do have Elements...if I could make myself learn it, it might do what I want with fonts but I'm not sure?

This one is my favorite.

Melissa,

Love the pink Paris flowers! I'm no expert but I would think Elements would already have a lot of fonts installed just for starters and has a lot of capabilities. It has a layers program which is a must for textures and fonts, there is so much you can do with it! I use GIMP which is freeware and has preloaded fonts but I want more (fonts)! Should you buy a pen it will probably come with a paint program that also will have fonts.

I love GIMP it is user friendly does everything imaginable and= vector. I would definitely spend some time on Youtube and e-how.com because it is set up like Photoshop, should you work for clients they will expect you to have a Photoshop file to give them (it is the most popular program for businesses).

Suzanne, I had to search my gallery long and wide to find a sculpture with Font, this is one of a very few that have a Font ,style "my own".

Typography was one of my very favorite parts of design school. Fonts are like eye candy, and it is so much fun to play with them.

I think my love of typography is one of the reasons I adore signage. I can't help but take photos of signs wherever I go. SO many amazing signs all over the world. My dad, ever practical, couldn't quite understand my wish to be an artist, so he encouraged me to be a sign painter--his logic being that people would always need signage. I decided on graphic design instead...more practical as a living than fine art, but lots of opportunity to be creative. Graphic design is really just visual communication, and that is exactly what signs--and their typography--do.

I too adore typography as an art form! It was wonderful to see some of the inspired and devices uses of type above. Thanks for this theme,

Mario,

I can't see it very well, the inspiration is appreciated! Awesome sculptures as usual!

Valerie,

Another Pro! Love the different styles, the little girl image is gorgeous!

Nola,

Your images are creative and fun. Talk about variety, great job!

Mike,

You have outdone yourself! I love the 3D quality with the use of found objects, well done, great design!

Marlene,

Beautiful images your handwriting is absolutely lovely, wonderful design!

Mike, I happened to stumble into your alphabet gallery yesterday...I was a little disappointed there was only an A. lol I am really looking forward to seeing the others!

Valerie,

Look at the detail and all the work in Mike's image, no wonder he only has an "A!" He's going to be silver haired before he gets to that Y!

Funny you should ask, Suzanne! I was just working with this today. I wasn't happy with this photo that I took on top of the Space Needle with my old camera, so I added some text and made it a poster with texture and sepia tones. I'm working making alphabetic text pieces, but after a while they kind of hurt my eyes. I think maybe I'm not too good at this, lol, but it's a diversion. I've also got a "Paris" one in the works, Melissa, but I think I like yours better!

I also sneak in trope font ( cantillation marks) into the paintings of blessings to guide the way some of the blessings are chanted...sometimes, they are my start off point for the designs:
In the one on the left, they are the right angle and the double dots. In the second, they are the comma looking thingies and the "less than" mark

Thanks for contribution your lovely works Connie and Shawna!

This is my first full drawing since college and I didn't draw a lot then. I've been gradually making use of the paint brush in Gimp. I love drawing/painting on software because I can easily erase. This was done for a tee shirt company competition that's why it can't be viewed in my gallery. Why do you think those deer are so wily at escaping only the most stealth hunter!

Here's one I've had in mind for a long time. I just never came across the "right" image on which to place this well-known piece of writing. But last night I found that image in my archives. Then came a professional typeface that I felt would complement the scene and appropriate tweaks to the original photo. So yesterday afternoon it was simply a thought, a want-to. But an hour or so after I submitted it this morning, it was honored with its first feature. This was fun, and it stars one of my favorite towns, Port Angeles, Washington. See what you think:

Thank you Connie! I'm kind of excited about drawing some more character themed artwork. Your image and words work together beautifully. Congratulations on your feature! It's exciting and satisfying to be able to put images together with words, it makes the words come alive.

Suzanne, thanks for your comments. I wanted to somehow put people in the image, and found a way to do that with the houses set among the trees. So the people are implied. Look forward to seeing more of your work.

Jenny Rainbow, what a burst of wonderful color. I can definitely see any of these being chosen by a buyer.

Lovely colors Jenny, nice to have you on the thread!

Connie, I think you and I and Mike since he has committed to creating the alphabet(!) can't seem to get enough of font images! Fonts are new for me, the creative possibilities are endless. I'm enjoying having you contribute, your photo has the loveliest blue tones.

Feel like some chocolate? Well, if you didn't you may now if my image does what it is supposed to...

Go ahead and enlarge your images especially the landscape so everyone can enjoy them (double the two smallest numbers closest to one another)!

Connie,

Thanks for letting me know how my image affected you. I am just a little jealous though, not only that you have high end chocolate in your larder but you can eat just one!

Xueling,

Lovely images, I am in love with red berries and poppies!

Gwen,

Nicely done, I especially like your handwritten looking font.

Suzanne, I think the landscape has already been doubled. I can't make any changes now 'cause I've expired.

Here another one that I just posted. It was a project toward my degree in Technical Communication--for a graphic design or typography class. The assignment was to create a self-portrait using only type. One had to be able to recognize whom it represented. I can't recall many of the fonts I used. But to give you an idea of what you're looking at, the eyeglasses were created with a letter g that was rotated. Very fun! Apparently it fits a greeting card format, so I guess I'll keep it in my FAA portfolio.

Connie, such a cute, clever caricature of you, I'll bet you got an "A!"

Connie Fox

Thanks, Suzanne. It's very nice to hear your kind words. Yes, I got an A. The secret to all A's in college is to return to school as an adult--when you're not mired in extracurricular activities (e.g. working, sorority, and boys). Would have graduated with Highest Honors (graduated with High Honors) had it not been for the "B" I got in speech class at Arizona State. It transferred and diluted my all-A's.

Glad you like the caricature. ;-)

Connie, I know that's right! I'm impressed regardless of the "B!"

Gorgeous images, Suzanne. I love that one has to seek out the type, which goes along with your theme of "Seeking him in My Hiding Place." Nothing shouts here. Very nice. (Thanks, by the way, for your kind words.)

its not that i wanted the break, i wanted to get it done before that vacation (it was a wedding we had to go to), i wanted animals and i had none, we were going to go to a zoo, so it worked out in the end.

Mike, neat that your animals came from your trip to the zoo! If it were me I would have welcomed a break. You've been single minded and finished the whole alphabet!

I'm always amazed when using a so so photo cutout for something it turns out better than expected. I'm thankful for the curves that I can lighten, brighten, darken, add color and desaturate.

Mike, I like it very much! It would be neat to use some of the letters to spell something, it would look quite amazing!

Mike Savad

i was thinking of some things, but i'm not sure what it would spell. and then it might get the idea in other peoples heads and i'll wind up doing names and stuff. which gets to be a pain, especially if spell it wrong. i'm hoping more for sales of letters, so they can buy it that way...:)
