A monochromatic painting to me means one color or colors within a narrow range of a particular color used in a painting with possibly varying textures. This is one of my images although it is not a painting I was trying to duplicate a particular painting style using digital methods (originally an inverted photograph of an open field surrounded by woods).

Since there is less contrast in a monochromatic image it can be hung in many spaces successfully because of the lack of busy design, not fighting or competing with other designs in the room.

Off the subject, you look as though you have some European ancestors or Anglo Saxon in your background.

A monochromtic painting means the artist is exploring one color..in a variety of values ( lights and darks) and textures....

I am now wondering what your paper is about since we have answered your question maybe you can tell us. I'm going to take a stab at it and try to guess, does it concern the kind of person uses a website like this, a sort of profile possibly for marketing purposes for building such a website, maybe finding out how much they know about art and other questions?

Although you have only asked us one question you may be asking other questions on similar websites. It would seem to be easier to get information with one question rather than a barrage of questions.

Hello, Suzanne
I appreciate for your answer to my question, now let me answer your question :) I am not into marketing or any kind of advertising nor using a website to test others.
AS i have clearly mentioned in my earlier posts, I am writing a dissertation on subject "Mono Chromatic Paintings" hence to do so i will have to collect, research more on this subject before i write anything. To gather the information about subject i have found this website where many experienced artists are registered, thought id i post my query they might help me with the information they got about my subject. This is the only reason just looking for support and guidelines from senior artists like you.

Hope i have made you clear with your questions, If you still have anything to ask its most welcome. After this if you could help me find more info on the same it would be very much appreciated.

Reinhardt especially is worth taking a look at. his paintings are the epitomy of monochrome.

I don't mean to make it sound like you are not being truthful with us, it would seem the subject has been written about in depth already for example with articles like Carolyn suggested but not having studied the subject I may be wrong. That is the reason I thought there may be more to your subject. Knowing the industry of people from your culture and how seriously they take education even if it were the case you would probably come up with a whole new angle and theory on monochromatic paintings!
