Welcome To Our Family.

The rules? No rules; just an expectation that we all "do unto others." In other words, if you want others to promote your work, you should do the same for them. Those of us who take a full part in promoting ourselves and others try to do so for a 24 hour period or longer if possible. That includes opening the Big Skip and promoting the images in there too.

GENERAL INFORMATION AND HOW WE DO THINGS HERE:

Please use the URL for your image postings, rather than the copy and paste code. Posting the photo itself, rather than a link will make it difficult for people who don't have high speed internet, as well it might cause people to skip over your post without promoting.

Only 1 image is allowed per day, both in this discussion and in the group.

If you are posting nudes, or other questionable images, please post a warning notice with your link. There are children here, as well as adults who choose not to look at that type of image.
Please do not post links from your pixels.com account or any other FAA mirror site. It tends to create problems for some people and most will skip those links.

ABSOLUTELY NO images of nudity, death, cruelty or violence of any kind on the main board, where you have no ability to post a warning.

Finally, JUST HAVE FUN!! This is an incredible group of people who will make you feel welcome from your first post!!

TO ALL NEWCOMERS: I realize that some of you are so new to not only the group, but to FAA, that I thought perhaps a little clarification is in order. I'm sure you've noticed that while we can't require anyone to vote/like anyone elses work, we do tend to treat people the way people treat others. But I also realized that you may not have a clue what we're talking about, so........... to "like" someone's work, you click on their blue link, which opens up that particular piece. In the upper right corner, you'll see a few little icons. One is a thumbs up, which is what you press to "like/vote" for that piece of art. Most of us here press that whether we love the work or not. It's how we help each other to move up in the FAA search standings (even though FAA now says it doesn't count for very much, but that's now past history and it is what it is). That's all we ask of you. Should you choose to do so however, you can also click on the little heart (which is to add a work to your own "favorites" list), and you'll also find buttons for the various social media sites if the artist chooses to activate any or all of those buttons. These are the ways we promote each other. You may also choose to vote/like your own submissions. It's perfectly acceptable to do so.

My first full month as manager is almost up and as of tonight, I am only $30 shy of the monthly goal. If tomorrow is as crazy as it was today - my staff will get a bonus.

Im feeling really out of the loop in here these days. Doing my best to keep up with conversations, but still lost. Maybe if I ever have a day off again I can really get back into the swing of things in here.

So I have a question. One of my friends wants me to find a picture of the titanic and paint it. I told him I can't do that because I have to have permission from the photographer in order to do that. He said that it is from way back then and all the pictures are public domain now. I don't believe that. Someone has to own the rights to those photos on the internet, correct? I don't want to get into trouble.

Thoughts?

Anne Rodkin

Ambre, it's a crap shoot......... if the original photographer left the photos to family, and they passed it down, they could have some copyrights. I doubt it, but anything is possible. If I'm wrong about this, I'm sure someone with more knowledge will correct me.

You could google "photos of the Titanic in public domain"

It's a Labor Day Weekend Miracle. I was editing an image tonight and my library "closed unexpectedly" when I imported the image back into the library. When I restarted the library software, it asked whether I wanted it to check to see if images were missing. After I said ok, and the library opened, all of the lost images since February, including the Canadian Rockies pictures were back in the library. I have no idea how this happened, since the external hard drive where the images had been stored is dead, and I have been working on a new hard drive. I guess those photos must have always been in the backup library but not visible for some reason. Anyway, I'm beyond happy.

Ambre, I think it is 70 something years, but not sure how long it last if the children inherit. Like Anne said, it's kind of a crap shoot. I think if you add your artistic touch, you will probably be okay. Don't do it just like the picture. And don't take my word for it! LOL
Dawn, take care of yourself!!!
Ellen, enjoy the kids being away...relax.
Hope I didn't wake up Joan.
Nancy, we understand it is hard to keep up with a job too.
Might be gone for the night. Really tired, been cooking all evening for the crew tomorrow. Having my son's favorite birthday dinner. Weiner Schnitzel, Spaetzl, gravy, brussell sprouts, red cabbage, and salad.

Dropping in to finish the night mostly with likes, some favs, couple comments.

Stuart - that's fantastic news!

Anne - working the next 3 days then having a friend came into town, so I will be playing guide - I will take my camera, just in case, but my focus will be on entertaining a friend. At the end of the month, I will get a chance for hopefully some serious photography. I've got just 2 cokin filters - chose to go initially with the .9 hard and .9 soft and the p-holder figuring I can combine them if needed and I have a polarizer filter, and a full ND filter and and I did find it relatively easy to use but forget I have them a lot of times. As you say, it's forming good habits.

Anyway, see you all in a week!

I'm here Lins. Debating whether to book a hotel in Page AZ or to wait until Ken gets done watching his football game (or whatever sport he's watching). And then there's the issue of one night or two (he always insists we need two nights in Page). I suppose I could book it and then cancel if he doesn't want to do that (or stay at the place I'm looking at).

The good news is he'll let me borrow some of his Nikon stuff (like his D800 with 36 mps)...... so I don't have to spend that money on renting gear. Which means I could conceivably maybe buy that motorized tripod head I've been wanting.

Decisions, decisions, decisions.......... I HATE making decisions!!

Complete with 46! Sorry to bore you, Lins! Was off buying a new car today. My Hybrid spent a week, two days and $1600 in the shop, and before I could even get her out of the dealership, had a problem with the brake system! Got her back on Thursday, and decided it was time. While I love the hybrids gas mileage, I do not love that no one but the dealership can/wants to work on them, so I'm now the proud owner of a 2015 Toyota Corolla!

Lew, so sorry for your parent's health issues. Between them and you daughter, you've had a tough, tough year (not that you don't already know that). Healing energy and hugs heading your way!!!!!!

Congrats on the new wheels Jemmy. I've got a 2009 Corolla LE with a whopping 6,000 miles on it. LOL I'm like the little old lady from Pasadena.

Marianne Campolongo

Congrats on the new wheels, Jemmy - I need to replace my 2002 Escape - tired of throwing good money after bad - I had a Corolla for 12 years - back in the 80's & 90's - drove it for 7 then passed it off to my husband (who had a 3 mile commute at the time) and it's probably still running somewhere today. The only thing we had to replace in all that time and about 80,000 miles was the muffler. Good choice!

(((HUGS))) for Lew and thanks to Anne for sharing Sarah's beautiful work. Have fun planning your trip!

Jemmy Archer

Thanks Anne and Marianne. Anne, I gotta say I laughed when I read your note - my 2008 had 119000 miles on it! I wondered if the gas in your tank is still ok!! Kim must drive on your photog outings, yes?

Jemmy, I must confess that when Kim and I do get together, she mostly comes over to this side, although I have occasionally gone across the Alley. She'll do the round trip the same day, whereas I generally stay overnight at a hotel when I go there. Mostly though, the car only goes to the market. They actually laugh when I bring it in for service when they see the mileage.

Since it's almost midnight, I'll post my submission for tomorrow

Yes, it's another re-run. I suspect you guys will be seeing a lot of those until my trip. LOL
