Looking For A Critique Please And Thank You

I'm dipping my toes in the Steampunk world with this image. I've worked on it for days and I think I need to step away from it and call it, "DONE"! What do you think?

sorry, not good enough to critique someone. I can say you have some unusual images. Perhaps, trying searching steam punk and look at other artisits.

Imaginative, funky and wonderful choice of color palate. My profession is fine art and nature photography, however if I see something I like or enjoy looking at I'll express my feelings. TWO thumbs up

As far as a critique, you may want a more experienced eye than mine. As far as I am concerned it looks great!. Way to go!

Thanks everybody for your opinions they really help so much. @Suzanne - you saw the chaos I was trying to really project, you have a really strong eye.
I think I may need to change or add to my profile because just photography alone is not satisfying me anymore... it's just where the journey begins for me now. The artist in me is beginning to dominate the photographer in me. I just going to go with the flow and see where it takes me. Hopefully, there will be some really cool art during this journey... stay tuned.

Davina,
This stunning piece defines time for me in many of its aspects.....fleeting, rushing, running out of....sci fi fantasy of time travel.....just marvelous!
As you proceed into this new area, you should feel confident to go "full steam ahead!"

Hi Davina, I can't critique but this is a very cool piece! I love that at first glance it is so abstracted and then bit by bit more comes out. It really pulls you in. Oh and of coarse I love the color. I have a feeling you will create some great works!

I like it! I can't critique it either, but I like it.

Although I love the neutral colors, that touch of orange is really awesome! All the gears and gadgets made me look at it for some time and that is exactly what you want people to do. Great job and artwork, Davina!

I like it a lot. There's not really anything to critique, but if I had to make a suggestion, perhaps a TINY bit more contrast to bring out the beautiful detail, but opinions are like, well, anyway...

Consider me your newest fan!

Trust Marlene's opinion she has seen a lot of good art and everyone else although I know a little about Marlene (she has been a fulltime artist for years and has a masters degree in art).

Have you looked into painting on an editor like Gimp.org or Paint.net? Do you have a pen yet? I bought a refurnished one (like new) at Amazon, just starting to use it, tons of possibilities.

You guys ROCK, thanks so much!

@Marlene - I will definitely move forward with this style. When I first was working on this piece I tried to marry to ideas together and it did not work for me, it was so flawed and I had to walk away from it. It wasn't until I got rid of one of the ideas and just worked on the steampunk idea that the art start to come alive. I hate to give up on something and I will probably work at trying to get my ideas to work in an image in the future. Hoping for the best on that.

@Suzanne - I do have a pen that I pick-up refurbished, too. I'm trying to get use to working with it but, it is not easy for me, I keep wanting to see where my pen is on the pad and where the cursor is on the screen... at the same time. I guess I have more confidence with the mouse that I don't have to look to see it is. When I first got the pen, I used it and it didn't feel natural to me so I put it up for awhile. I realized that I was being silly and needed to work with it more so I pulled it back out and placed it on my work desk... next to my mouse. My mouse still gets more play time then the pen, but I'm working on it.

I've heard about Gimp and Paint but, I've never used them. I work in Photoshop... CS3 and sometimes Illustrator (still learning this one).

I think CS3 and Illustrator will fill all your needs. I'm not the most experienced I use GIMP right now and starting to learn Inkscape, I'm probably about where you are, I will need to move into the Adobe products (I really like GIMP, apparently more user friendly, simpler to use) if I do some crowd sourcing since they seem to require those editors.

Why are you asking us for advice? We should be asking you!.

Take your work to a gallery and ask them.

Davina...I just looked at it 90 degrees to the left.....it works very well in landscape configuration with the bright orange in the goggles shooting UP and out to the right....can you reconfigure it for us to see? I think you'll be pleasantly surprised!!
I would suggest to always look at the particular piece in all four directions...it's an easy test to work out kinks...a problem will just scream with a different view ;)

@Marlene - you're right, I do like the landscape version as well. I tweaked a little here and there but, over all I really like the landscape version.

To be honest I like the original because there is less dark at the top, generally light colors look best on top with darker colors below. The objects seem to loose weightlessness and appear to be fastened to a wall.

Marlene Burns

Davina,
Just take the original and turn it 90 degrees to the left...that way the darks will still be on the bottom and goggles heading up....

OK, I think I got it. Check the updated version below and let me know what you think.
