Tips For Attracting People To Your Page?

I would love to pick the brains of artists who are actually getting regular sales and traffic to their pages. What is your best tip (or tips) in how to market yourself? How did you build your audience? What is helping people get to your page? I'm new, but I'm trying to learn and grow so that I attract more traffic. Thank you all for your thoughts. I appreciate your suggestions.

Karen Wiles offers some great tips in this thread. http://fineartamerica.com/showmessages.php?messageid=2044835

I've only sold print one so far, so I'm no expert, but here's what I do. I have a community oriented website http://www.montereypeninsula.info. I have several links there to my FAA Artist Website. I have also been using FAA image links to illustrate many of my pages, such as this one http://www.montereypeninsula.info/guide/mryintro.htm

I also use an FAA slideshow widget in the sidebar of my blog. http://www.montereypeninsula.info/guide/mryintro.htm

But the one thing that drives more traffic to my website than any other is on most public forums I participate in, I have a signature with my website address that I use in every message I post (except here).

Denise -- Welcome to the Pixels / FAA family!

If there is one consistent that I have found about selling and marketing it is that all of us here do our own thing, what works for us.

Here is a thread from JC ( one of the forum moderators ) and in it is another link by Sean ( the owner of Pixels / FAA ) which I think is the most important information for selling and attracting people you your page. It is also my very favorite from Sean. http://fineartamerica.com/showmessages.php?messageid=1127362

Finally, at the top of the discussions forum here click on the "help" tab and search for marketing .... and make a pot of coffee.

Frank is very right. I, however do my "OWN" thing to much, and too suborn to work bringing people here because its not my own site. I prob wont get any sales and okay with that. You really have to see how the whole site works and see if its the type of site your willing to spend lots of hours working on.
Like said above, you need to market your customers to come here to buy.
You don't move up in the search, or even sometimes put into it until you make sales

if you haven't already, get the membership, then get a domain name that's yours. so at least if your advertising anything, it starts with your link and not this place. if you ever had to sell it yourself, then your link is already out there some place. i always try to add http://www.MikeSavad.com where ever i can.

always have descriptions and good keywords - more at least.

don't crop your name at the bottom of the image
do turn on the loupe, people like to know what they are buying.
always have new work
always advertise when you can, get new people on twitter, facebook etc.
find blogs, news articles, and any other place your name can be found.

don't include links in your bio, or people may leave and not come back.

Thank you, everyone! Yes, so, what do you do as your "own thing" (outside of FAA) when it comes to marketing? What are your best tips for someone who is just getting started? Thank you so much.

As you see, there are no cut and dry rules: you have to WORK at it--like reading each of the linked articles and suggestions above.

It is a job and to be successful you will have to spend the time here learning a little something day by day.

That's what I do, anyway.

Yes, I'm willing to work at it and spend the time. That's why I'm asking this question. I would love to what I can do to market myself and to help build an audience. Thanks for the links. :)

any relation to Chyler Leigh?....For a moment I thought she joined! lol

...good luck ;)

Yes, so, what do you do as your "own thing" (outside of FAA) when it comes to marketing?

My short answer:

I never leave home without an 8x10 or 11x14 portfolio of about 20 prints. When people ask about my art, it's important to 'show' as well as 'tell'.

Business cards . . . always.

Show and sell your work in the 'real world'. That not only drives traffic to your website, but gives you credibility (and customers) within your community.

Best of luck, Denise!

Wendy, that is such a great idea!!! Thank you.

You're very welcome, Lisa -- happy to help! :-)

Lisa -- I keep my iPad mini with me now that we have the new Pixels app for iOS. FYI.

Edit --- This morning someone at church asked me about my art photography. Well, don't have my iPad there and forgot to fill up my business card holder. Fortunately, I told the person to search my name.... luckily I've been Branding so that my name is on the top of the pile in search. I've lost count the number of times someone told me they searched my name before they bought from me. This is the "new" customer / buyer.

I have the avatar image with URL (the one over there on the left) printed on my business cards, which are printed on high gloss, heavy stock. I also have it printed on white polo shirts that I use for events. I also have it printed large on both the front and back of T-shirts when I am out shooting AND on magnetic signs for the doors of my car. They all attract some attention and prompt some conversations.

Now I need to create a small portfolio, as Wendy suggests. That will add one more item to my marketing toolkit. :)
