Has Anyone Else Noticed?

So, I usually check the new artist section to see if anyone in my area has joined FAA. It helps with networking and outreach. Anyway, has anyone else noticed the blast of "new artists" who use a celebrity photo or a cartoon character for their avatar and list their location as Detroit, Poland or Cleveland, India? Very strange........

I don't usually look at the new artists so I can't say if it's a new phenomenon or not, but the two I looked at that fit the profile you describe both had links in their bio sections. They are probably profiles created by bots trying to boost the SEO of those sites by planting links to them wherever they can find an open site on the web. Hopefully FAA has some sort of mechanism in place to weed out those sorts of profiles later...

I do see that and it seems rather strange...the ones I checked don't have any art as of yet...

Everything on the Internet now contains frauds and scams. Bunch of crap.

It's pretty funny actually, but I don't let it bother me too much.
I looked at two of them in the new artists page and one is from "Albuquerque, New Mexico Poland" the second was from "Garland, Texas Poland". I'm not up on current geography, but I'm pretty sure New Mexico and Texas are in the United States. Of course, I only attended public schools, so I could be wrong about that.

With any luck, questionable accounts will be deleted soon enough.

Agreed - this is some pretty funny reading. (omitting their link to whatever the heck it might be):

Reading that makes me feel like I just had a small stroke....

They must think that we all just fell off of the banana boat! WOW!

I'm starting to think that maybe they are onto something. Perhaps I should write my descriptions in an undecipherable coded language. Or I could use Morse Code or Semaphore Flags instead?
You never know what will work.

The link spammers have been here for ever. They pop up and have profiles that don't appear to get deleted which is good for FAA's new member numbers. I am sure if they spammed the forum they would get deleted but not sure about if they create spam blogs.

I have noticed, Gary! I check out the new artists often and am also seeing a LOT of photos of 'artists' who seem to think FAA is a dating site! Strange, but true.

as long as they aren't names from the obituaries i guess it should be ok. the question is, what kind of art will they post? i know when i had a new account i didn't have an avatar right away.

i reported 4, with the jimmy neutron. i didn't look at the rest, those all seemed to have the same theme, too much of a coincidence.

WOW! Google the one from Garland, Polands name alone....What a scammer! Floyd, I actually take five minute breaks from my painting and read all of the discussions and it gives my hands and mind a minute to relax. I admit, I am addicted!!! LOL

that particular guy has quite few accounts, including that one that looks like a mug shot. i kind of do wonder how many are fake spammer accounts, when we say how many artists there are.

---Mike Savad

Mark, did you mention 'pressed ham'?

Ugh -- hate that stuff. ;-)

Yikes, I was hoping for an automated mechanism!

Oh well, maybe you can collect spam descriptions and write a nonsensical book in your 'spare' time! LOL

Then the spammers will go after her for Copyright Violations, natch! :-)
