New Group: Seascape Photography Only

I have started a new group for Seascape Photography Only. Here is the post I made in Frank Casella's thread explaining why I started the new group.

I can't tell you how educational it has been in just one day! I plan on promoting the group every day via Twitter and FB and I STRONGLY suggest each member does the same.

http://fineartamerica.com/groups/seascape-photography-only.html?tab=overview

--------------------------------------

Most of the groups are run really well, imho. Some better then most but the ones I belong to get a big pat on the back.

The time and effort some of these people put into working with the groups is to be commended.

To better understand what it is like and what these people are going through as group administrators, I decided I would open my own group more or less as a learning experience.

The name of the group is Seascapes Photographers. I picked a narrow focus because I wanted to keep it manageable while learning what managing a group is all about.

Everyone is certainly well to join. And yes I did upload my own images and yes I did feature my own images. And I will continue to do so. If that bothers anyone, then don't join. I have no intentions of dominated the group but it looked dumb with no images so I loaded my own.

I will also be promoting the group via the FB group I stated called: FineArtAmerica. Any member is welcom to join the over 400 FAA members that are there, sharing each others work on personal FB pages and in groups that they would not normally have access to. Or at least that was the idea.

I just shared the group link with over 80 groups and 50 friends pages representing over 3 million in membership and friends/followers.

I also twitted the link on twitter to over 1500 followers.

Please do the same thing to all of your groups and twitter.

If you use G+ or Linked in or any of the other SM, please use them and let's promote this group.

I would hate to see us just be yet another image dump on FAA.

This is the second time I have done this and I will continue to do it but you need to do your part.

Thank you for your cooperation.

All members of this group should join the Facebook group FineArtAmerica.

It is a group I started for FAA members only.

The idea of the group is you are expected to share other peoples post on you FB page, your friends and in any groups you belong to.

You are NOT expected to make comments or post any NON FAA links or images or promote you own FB page. It simply will not do you any good and it compromises the reason to the group by suppressing the posts of other people and they are NOT going to share these posts.

Again, the idea is to get others to share your work. All of the members in the group are FAA members so there is no benefit of advertising anything thing in the group. They are not the buyers we are trying to reach.

Once you join the FineArtAmerca group on FB you should post the same images in the FB group that you post in the FAA group. This is playing to the old adage of Tell'em, Tell'em what you told'em and then tell'em again.

In all advertising and message is most effective when it is repeated to the same audience several time.

Once you post in both groups everyone in the FAA group should promote the group via Facebook, Twitter or any other Social Media you use.

So far, I am not getting the feeling that for the exception of maybe a couple of members of the FAA group that anyone else is promoting the group. Unless you are willing to promote the group outside of FAA the group is simply worthless. It is just another image dump on FAA and there is no value to that.

I am not going to continue to promote the group at the rate I currently am. Either we get some cooperation and get people promoting the group or it will die a natural death.

I am basing my opinion of no one being willing to promote the group based on the fact that I am getting zero or nearly zero feedback either in this thread or in the thread in the group itself.

If anyone has any ideas on how we can improve the group and make it better I am all ears.

I want to mention that the purpose of the group and its only purpose is to try to sell artwork. It is NOT the purpose of the group to seek and find the greatest seascape photos on the net. Don't believe the hype! lol There are a lot of other groups that are doing that already.

I am screening out some images that I do not see as what I would consider seascapes and a few that have technical problems. I am NOT going critique your photos and explain myself. There are plenty of other people on FAA that are more then willing to impress you what knowing everything there is to know about photography. I am not one of them. I don't know much about photography, but I do no selling and what will sell and some of idea what will not.

I am trying to get everyone on the feature page. As soon as we reach a certain number, yet to be determined, I am going to close the group and only add new members as old ones leave.

I am also going limit the number of feature images and I am going to try to make sure everyone has at least two images on the feature page. As for the regular images I am not sure if it matters how many add up. But on the Home page where the features are, I believe there is a limit of how many images people want to page through before they get bored an move off the page.

Again anyone that has ideas on this they are certainly welcome.

But the big thing is YOU have to be willing to promote this group outside of FAA or it will die a natural death.
