Featuring Art Or Photos In Groups

I recently took over the administration of a small group called, "Charlestown & Coastal South Carolina"
When I took it over I featured one entry from each of those current members. Today, I sent each member of the group this message for discussion:

E-Mail

I featured one piece of art or a photo for each person who was a member when I became administrator of this group. I will feature one piece of art or photo from each new member, as they join. If I miss one of yours, please let me know on this discussion forum or send me an email.

Additionally, I will review the work on file here and from time to time will feature a photo or artwork the I feel is above the average for it's media. This will be soley my discretionary choice.

While my paintings and sketches relating of Charlestown and the coast will be posted here, none will be featured but they will occasionally be used as our logo.

Bill Hubbard, Administrator.

I feel you will have too many images featured if you do this. I you get 2000 members you will have 2000 featured images and that defeats the whole point of that page

Features should be special. Art should be chosen purely on its merits to best show off your groups subject, not just anyone who joins gets a feature.

As on the group admin guidelines, no more than 30 images should really show there showing they are ultra special, then rotate them weekly or fortnightly. That is not a rule, just a suggestion there

I do not see why you do not add yours to be featured either. You run the group and are allowed. Just one now and then will not hurt and people expect it

Just my honest opinion

Bill, I too think you should feature your own artwork. Then hold a contest from time to time for the group avatar. I think you'll see a better impact and response this way.

One thing I do as a group admin is through I feature my artwork I don't post a comment on it about the feature as I do with the other members of the group. But what happens is many members post a comment on my artwork as a 'thank you'. This could also be that I don't allow thank you's in my group discussion threads.

With regards to your features, I would suggest that you update your guidelines that you'll feature artwork once per month from the best submitted in the past thirty days .. and only one per artists from that. How does that sound?

One other thing that I do is allow only 20 images per member active in the group at a given time to keep it from becoming a sea of art. It is also then more manageable for me as the admin.
