Newsletter Links - Post Yours And Discuss

Direct marketing via opt-in email is one of the best marketing methods (and one I have stupidly never utilised). I thought it might be interesting to see how many artists do use them and how effective you have found them for marketing.

Please post your link here (whether it be the FAA newsletter sign-up or one on your own website)

Great topic Michelle!!

When I send an email to my art photography audience I see a click open average of 63%. This is from buyers who subscribe and want to know what I have to say, as compared to buying lists of 'unknowns'. I do this by no longer marketing for the sale, but marketing for the email address and buyer relationship. I have seen far more buyers doing it this way. Here is my subscriber link, it is also on my Pixels bio and all my other business social communications channels: http://frank-j-casella.artistwebsites.com/subscribewebsiteemaillist.html

I also have a thread with links on the how to of email newsletter marketing: http://pixels.com/showmessages.php?messageid=1935582

I will add the link to this thread to my thread to crossover so artists in the future find either of these threads.

I am heavily researching newsletters at the moment as it appears to be the best way to actually capture your target audience.

I don't see the value in spending money on google or facebook for example - it might get you thousands of views, but unless people are ready to buy instantly - and many are not - then time, effort and $ are wasted. At least with a newsletter you can capture those that are truly interested in your work. A 63% click through rate shows the effectiveness Frank. Where do you get those stats from with the FAA newsletter, is that somewhere behind the scenes that I haven't found?

I don't get subscribers so rarely send a newsletter. No point if nobody wants to read it :)

I see some people pay for lists. We get a lot of complaints from the people receiving them

Yes in BTS at the E-mail Campaign tool. When you send an email you can hit the track button for that email. It will show you the email addresses that opened it, and the percentage, etc. It's very basic information compared to my MailChimp account that I use for my nonprofit, but meets my needs at this time for my art photography audience.

Thanks Frank, I will have a look. I have never sent an FAA newsletter but I know I have some subscribers.

Abbie, I think some people do pay for lists of email addresses that have been harvested from the internet which is really frowned upon as it is spam - that is not what Frank and I are talking about.

There are paid services that you can use like Mail Chimp, but they are all opt in newsletters, like the FAA one . We've just bought a widget for my website that has heaps of functionality and analytics, so I hope to get that up and running over the next few days.

I never bought a list, however, I did create an email list from all the clients I've had over the past 25+ years. I send them an email once per month and at the bottom I invite them to my 'subscribed' list. So far over the past year about 30% have migrated, the rest just may not be interested in art photography or they no longer use a photographer. The list that I get the high open rate from is the subscribed list. I had to learn how to create the right content, until then I was getting the industry average of below 20% open rate. The key to content is best described by the words of sales guru Jeffery Gitomer ( look him up on youtube ) " People Don't Like To Be Sold, But They Love To Buy" ™.

Sorry, Michelle, for going off topic a bit.

I'm gently bumping this up because I think its really important we follow our email campaigns to learn from each other just like we do for Twitter and FB, etc.

On FAA, I see where to join my e-mail list, but is there sopm, ewhere that I can see who is on the list?

Never mind! Found it!

Next question then, how would one go about getting people to join the list without it sounding like a used car ad?

Look at my bio for an example. Read the thread at the link in my first post of this thread.

I'd like to see examples of good news letters - stating the obvious is not news. (I'll never be good at marketing - except in person)

I don't know if you would call this a "good" newletter but here is my last one with a 40% open rate (not knowing when I sent it out that it would have a donotreply - at - fineartamerica.com address----my subscribers were expecting a kathy@keppenart.com address).

Summers End
How time flies! We are at the end of summer and there have been several changes at KeppenArt.com in the past few months. There are 19 galleries and 47 pictures posted on the site at this time. You will find the newest blog there, Summer Came And Went.

There are also several new galleries. The SOLD gallery holds the photographs that have been sold on KeppenArt.com as prints, greeting cards or cell phone cases. The Contest gallery was created to show photographs that have placed in one of the top three spots in one or more of the many contests held on Fine Art America. Another gallery has been created specifically for photographs that will be used exclusively on Greeting Cards. Keep on eye out on that one as several new photographs will be added in that gallery soon, just in time for the holidays. The gallery titled Not For Sale is comprised of pictures that have an interesting story behind them but are not the type of pictures suitable for wall decor, except possibly for historical or comedic use.

To post photography that is not only interesting but fills a buyer's needs I will need your help in finding out what those needs are. Feedback on subject matter, preference for color and type of photography will be appreciated. What better way for me to find out what you would purchase for your home or as a gift.

Please send an e-mail or make a post for me on my Facebook Fan page (Keppen Art, LLC) and let me know what you want to purchase for your own home or as a gift and I will do my best to make those types of prints available.

Speaking of gifts, all three of the sales made online this summer included a surprise $100 gift certificate for wine! There are periodic promotions offered by Fine Art America that are available when buying from KeppenArt.

Another advantage of purchasing artwork from KeppenArt is knowing you are buying Made In The USA products with a 30 Day Money Back Guarantee.

The traditional gift giving season is just around the corner and many of you have already started your shopping. For those of you who are not finished, and those of you who have that person on your list that has everything, I suggest you try giving the gift of art.

Artwork and cell phone cases can be purchased at:

I certainly hope you will visit me online soon!

Till next time,

Does anyone know how to download the original pdf of your newsletter? I was able to do it earlier in the year but it was very complicated and I don't remember how I did it. I thought I had saved it as an attachment from the email that is sent when you do an Email Campaign. Now when I tried that it seems to be embedded in the email. My only option is to save the entire email as an attachment but then my header is in it. I couldn't cut out the header in Acrobat.
Also, FAA won't let you upload a PDF. I wanted to create a gallery of my newsletters but I had to do it as jpgs. Would be nice to have them available for download in the original format.
