Irish Artists And Those That Know Ireland Well... Your Suggestions Please

I am headed for the Emerald Isle later this year. Our route goes from Dublin to Kilkenny area for a couple of days, then down to Clonakilty via Kinsale. From there we drive the Dingle Peninsula to Tralee. The next day, the Cliffs of Moher, through the Burren to Galway. From Galway we drive back to Dublin for a couple of days stopping at Trim and Bru na Boinnne on the way. Do you have any suggestions about things to see or do which may be favorites of locals and not the touristy spots? Great places to eat that won’t empty my pocketbook? Excellent pubs and music venues that won’t be filled mostly with other tourists? Your suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

If you are heading towards the Dingle and have time, stop in Cahersiveen and have a sandwich and a pint at the Shebeen. The locals only speak Gaelic and will probably ignore you. You definitely will not get special treatment, but the soup and food is good and the pints cold.

Oh, and when in Kilkenny try the Kilkenny Ale.

Thanks Kevin, I will definitely put that on my list for that area.

Well as I am from Kinsale I would have to say that it is the very best of all the places you are going to visit, and may i say they are the most beautiful places in the world.
Two of my favorite places to eat in Kinsale are, The Fishy Fishy Cafe and, The Man Friday, the latter being a place to go for an evening meal, a little expensive but worth it.

The best places to eat in Ireland are the Pubs, and most pubs have Pub Grub, also try and stay out of the big cities, head for The West coast of Cork, Glengarriff, Bantry, and Kerry, The people of Kerry are fantastic.
When in Kinsale go to Charles Fort, http://kinsale.ie/category/things-to-do/historical-kinsale/historical-sites/ on the way there there is a pub called the Bullman Bar, http://www.thebulman.ie/ It is a Stone Throw from the Fort, great for a pint of Guinness.
And if you are looking for a reminder of your trip you can always buy your art posters and Originals from me. http://conor-murphy.artistwebsites.com/
Have a wonderful time and let the wind always be at your back.
Slan agus Dia Bless, ( farewell and God Bless)

Conor

Connor, Thank you so very much for all your suggestions. I looked over all the websites. They all look so tempting. Being extreme seafood lovers, the Fishy Fish looks right down our alley. And it’s always a good thing to know where to get a good cold pint during an afternoon of sightseeing. I assure you we will give one or two of these a try. Thanks again.

If you are going to be in Dublin try the Whistling Pig down by the Livey. And of course, listen to Conor as he knows more than I.

Where to start...

Cork-
English market (ask anyone where it is). I don’t think it’s amazing but people like it a lot.
Shandon Bells. You can climb the tall church tower, ring the bells (sounds boring but fun. You pull rope that rings the giant bells on the tower) and have a bit of a view from the top
Vibes and Scribes have two book stores that I like a lot. A bit of everything in them.
Bishop Lucy park is a very small grassy area right in the city center; nice to have a sandwich and relax.
Crawford Art Gallery is in town and free.

Blarney is a nice visit. 20 mins from cork, you can kiss the blarney stone and walk the large grounds.
Kinsale- Charles Fort in Kinsale is nice. For something different how about night kayaking in Kinsale. I did the daytime kayaking, a friend did night time one and said it was very cool.
Pop into Giles Norman photo gallery

Cork- some pubs to try, even listed as a mini pub crawl:
These are all on the same street, the last one just off it.
Hi B Bar, Oliver Plunket Street. Have to try this place. Just off the top of Patrick Street. It’s upstairs, ask anyone where it is.
An Bodhran, Oliver Plunket Street
An Brog, Oliver Plunket Street
Mutton Lane Inn Mutton Lane (Patrick Street),
Bodegia- Bridge Street. Tapas, wine and beer.
Suas- south main street

Restaurants:
Café paeadiso. Vegeratina but very ncie. Lancaster Quay
Market lane (Irish)
Greene, Mac Curtin Street (European food)
Isascs- next to Greens.
Fenns Quay- fenns quay. Very ncie
If you want to try the nicest chipper in Ireland try Jackie Lennoxs. It’s about a 20 minute walk from the city center. Get the chips and curry sauce.

Galway- small town, walk around it. Loads of street performers. There's a local market there on Saturday.
The Crane Bar has music, mostly trad every night. Great spot.
Walk from Spanish Arch to The Claddagh and along the shore all the way to Salthill. Kick the wall at the end (everyone does).
McDonaghs is THE chipper in Galway.
Have a look at my 'Galway' gallery to see some photos from Galway.

Enjoy,
Patrick.

Thank you Patrick for all the great suggestions! At this point we probably will bypass Cork but with all your great suggestions we may try to fit it in. We are definitely going to Blarney Castle. The family is looking forward to kissing the stone. I am handicapped so my activities remain earthbound, but I get around great on my scooter. You are the second person to recommend the fort at Kinsale so I guess that is a must-see. We will be in Galway on a Wednesday, getting there probably in the afternoon. Our dance card was empty for Galway so I am glad to now have some direction for what to do there. We will definitely try to get by your gallery. What is the address?
