Object Removing App

I am curious as to what would matured photographers here say about the object removing apps that are around in the market; such as Retouching Photo and Photo Eraser. I would like to know what you all use, if you use it and if you don't, why not?

I use Photoshop for all my processing, which is often extensive. However, if you're talking about removing blemishes from skin and such, the special purpose apps are supposed to be pretty good.

I use Lightroom and Photoshop.

Basically, Lightroom is my General Practitioner, but when major surgery is needed, I go to Photoshop.

I'm the same as David.I use Lightroom to organise all my images and do most of the editing that I need.Anything I can't do in LR then a quick trip to Photoshop is needed.I think that 90% can be done in Lightroom unless it is a special effect that you are after

i never heard of those, i use photoshop. chances are they all use a patch match tech and probably all work the same. which is about 40% well.

I've had some really great results with InPaint --

I've used it for more than a year, after receiving it FREE from GiveawayOfTheDay.com

Of course you can do pretty much anything with Photoshop, but I love experimenting with software, and am always pleased to find a program that works not only easily, but well. :-)

Photoshop for me as well.

I hate post processing, sometimes it is needed, like most above, photoshop and lightroom are good and you can buy/create actions that help with many 'flaws' - my trick is to create art that needs minimal post processing, don't have too much time for that, rather go out creating art than fixing things

Corel Paintshop Pro here too. For skin, I have been using Facefilter3, which does a much better job than they advertize.

I've started using MacPhuns software for extra processing. - https://secure.avangate.com/order/product.php?PRODS=4626975&QTY=1&AFFILIATE=64304

Wow thank you all so much!! Photoshop didn't have good reviews on App store, so I was wondering if you all use something else!
I will check out MacPhuns, Corel Paintshop, Lightroom and InPaint!

I'm curious what people found wrong with Photoshop besides its complexity. It's pretty much the standard of the world when it comes to photo editing.

Fumie... App store? are you looking for something to run on a tablet or phone? Or a desktop... Windows or Apple?

@Murray -- I've been using Photoshop for about twenty years; but there are at least two things wrong with it:

1. It's too much software for most users,
2. It's ridiculously expensive, which drives many buyers to shop around for an alternative.

@Bob -- Good questions. All our heartfelt responses might be moot!

I don't know Mr. Murray...looks like only 11 ppl left reviews and 4 of them gave only one star. It looks like some complaints with Mac compatibility.

I guess you all don't download Photoshop as an app?

Mr. Galka, I have a macbook. You recommend downloading software instead of buying it from App store?

Hi Wendy. I've been using it for eons, too. I don't worry about all the features I don't use. On the other hand, I'm now using parts of PS that I never imagined myself needing years ago.

As for cost, While the initial purchase was expensive, I upgraded every two years and didn't think it was all that expensive. Creative Cloud seems reasonable in cost. Tools are often worth what you pay for them. Using hand tools as an example, you can buy junk at Walmart that breaks, or get Craftsman or Snap-on, guaranteed forever and built to last.

That's interesting Fumie. PS was originally designed for Macs, which was the platform of choice (probably still is). I don't understand the compatibility issues. Odd.

Fumie... is this what you are talking about?

http://www.photoshop.com/products/photoshopexpress

If so it is not the photoshop that we are talking about. We are referring to Photoshop that runs on desktop computers.

I personally do not have any experience with Photo Express. sorry.

Mr. Galka, it was Photoshop Elements 12 Editor that I looked at on App Store.

and this is what you all have, i guess

Some of us have Lightroom, but when we refer to Photoshop, we're usually talking about the full-featured version, not Elements.

Fumie Harrington

I see it now~ it is quite expensive but if you have PS, what else do you need, right?

Photoshop Elements for the mac....

Might be enough for your use.. a little cheaper that the Photoshop CC

Murray Bloom

The current version is $10/month. Whether or not it's expensive depends on whether you expect it to pay for itself. I would agree that, while some third party PS actions and plug-ins are often useful, the full version gives you all you'll generally need.

even with free photoshop, you can clone things out. the heal tool is nice to have, but the stamp tool was first, and much more versatile. i use that more than the heal tool itself.

Don't forget Gimp (free) is also really good, once you get through the learning curve. I used to use Photoshop, but sooner rather than later, could not afford its high price otherwise would use Photoshop full version.

Mike....what is free Photoshop?

Mike Savad

if you buy a scanner or a camera, etc, often it comes with a free copy of photoshops, usually some form of elements. it has most of everything you need to edit, clone, etc.

and I go way out on a limb and use PhotoPlus (v5) from Serif. I don't do 'extensive' processing on my photo's - I use it mostly to create my digital abstracts. I found it rather easy to use for what photo editing I do. and it will do a lot more than what I use it for in post processing a photo - there are tutorials on youtube for it. Easier than any version of PS I ever tried.

Photoshop is probably the best, but I don't have it and somewhat resent a monthly charge that could be increased to an amount I would not be willing to pay for. Somehow it feels a bit like blackmail....

This is another option for removing objects.
http://www.ononesoftware.com/products/suite8/

I've had the program for a bit but haven't used it much until the other night. I figured out how to use the cloning stamp tool in addition to the eraser the other night and I was able to remove 4 window air conditioners, one no parking sign and a huge street light that cut through the entire building on this image. The eraser tool was fine for two security lights on the ends of the building and a pole on top but could not handle the other stuff. This was actually a defining moment for me and I was pretty damn jazzed up after figuring it out! Unfortunately there wasn't anyone to go woot with at 4:30 am when I got the hang of the cloning tool!!

At some point in the future I can see I may end up with Photoshop but do feel I would need to take a class! However, learning some of these things in other programs I'm sure will help my learning curve.

Mr. Ericson, thanks! it is definitely cheaper than Photoshop...and I am just a beginner so I am gonna read up on it and decide!

I appreciate all of your responses!!
