When I saw the headline, I chuckled and thought to myself, "It won't be a week before a photog is either beaten up or arrested by an officer in New York." Afterall, Amtrak held that photo contest, announced on their web site, and days later, that photographer was harrassed by Amtrak officials for taking photos of Amtrak trains.

Yes, and . . . "This comes a whopping two years after Washington DC’s police chief sent out an almost identical memo."

I wonder if this new announcement has anything to do with what's happening in Ferguson, MO where the police are locking up photographers and telling them they don't have the right to be there, or take any pictures of what's going on.

I really need to read up on Ferguson. Somehow I'm behind on that. I have a feeling that nationally it will get worse before it gets better with more and more folks recording more and more things that typically were never recorded before.

I believe that the memo is closely related to the earlier incident on Staten Island which was recorded by several bystanders. Officers were showing signs of becoming "camera -shy" (to put it nicely) after that incident.
