Dumb Question, But Here Goes...

I should know the answer to this but I'm not firing on all pistons today. No sleep, lots of physical work, a glass or two of wine, etc., so feeling particularly brain dead. Anyway, I have a bunch of old 4x6 prints that are worth scanning IF I can end up with larger dimensions for printing. Several years ago I scanned a few and am looking at the files now. I think I scanned them at 300 dpi. They are really tiny files. It would be a huge time suck to scan them but worth it if I can get decent 8 x10 prints. Can it be done and at what resolution? Thanks!

every 300dpi equals 1 time. so 600 would be double etc. i usually scan that stuff in at 2400dpi and up then shrink the results.

You can scan them 4x6 @300dpi. That will give you a decent print up to 12x18. That would be 1200x1800 pixels.

Glad it helped you too, Vivian. It makes perfect sense now that my brain is functioning again.

I followed the other links on the page that Joann referenced and those tips made sense too. Only problem is now I want a new scanner! The HP I use works OK but I want a dedicated photo scanner. I did a sort by highest price on B&H and they have a scanner for 60k! Guess I won't be getting that one...

The reviews are pretty good on this one but it seems too cheap to do a decent job - http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/647187-REG/Epson_B11B198011_Perfection_V600_Photo_Scanner.html
Anyone have any recommendations?
