Flickr Is For For Illustrators And Painters Too ...

It is commonly known that Flickr is for photographers. Here is an article on the Flickr blog highlighting an illustrator artist.

I get no comments at flickr, but then, I don't promote it like I do this site. https://www.flickr.com/photos/johnhaldane/

OK, gentlemen, I just looked at my "old" Flickr account. I've been a member a month longer than Frank - but only have three (3) images uploaded. LOL
I suppose I should get busy - if only as additional avenue of exposure.

I just created my custom URL: https://www.flickr.com/photos/billswartwout
Now I need to go in and change the title a bit and eventually gather images to upload. I did click to "follow" both of you...

Excellent -- I will make you both "Friends" when I follow you. Sometimes I keep my images private for feedback before posting "public".

By the way, do a discussion search here for Flickr and you'll see my other posts on how to use this platform to make sales. Remember, you can sell on Flickr as long as you don't get 'salesy" with your verbiage.

I started following you, Frank. I'm on Flickr as: https://www.flickr.com/photos/barkingdogdesigns/

I have nothing on flickr but old stuff as I haven't used it for sometime. I've considered starting again. Here's mine. https://www.flickr.com/photos/hwkphoto/

John, Bill, Susan, and HW -- I've connected with you. Welcome to the new Flickr!

For those of you who are artists ( not photographers ) at this link is the profile of the artist highlighted on the Flickr blog today. Thought you'd like to see what art groups he follows on Flickr. Sometimes I have been contacted by an art director or collector who has found my artwork in a Flickr group. Works very similar to groups on FAA.

Frank, your Flicker page looks great! I barely have enough time for this site, let alone another one. What are the advantages for being on Flickr in addition to being here?

I was thinking of your Philip when I wrote the title ... you didn't disappoint me! I wanted to keep the title short to get the thread opened.

Patricia -- Flickr is a platform for photography and photographers. It is the best place I have found to store, search, share ad organize your artwork online. The only place it falls short is with the shopping cart, which is here on FAA. Both platforms work very similar. I'm finding buyers search Flickr for pictures and artwork just as much as they do YouTube for video. I used to live on Flickr - though it still is the hub for all of my photography - but don't spend as much because I have the momentum moving now that I see about 400 referrals per week from Flickr to my FAA. I'm seeing more from about.me and my email marketing, but Flickr works better for me than Facebook or Twitter every did.

Hope I answered your questions ... if not, haller back !!

You're right, I've never been good with titles. I'll try to update it. Thanks!

Lately I've been trying to add some of my new stuff there, and there's probably some old stuff I should delete. I know I don't like the recent password updating windows that appear now when you log in. Wish I could get around that w/o having to click on the "skip for now" buttons, as I don't want to change my pw at the moment.

It just seems like yet another place to have your images stolen, especially if you don't use it

Thanks Philip !!

Kevin -- I've said this before in other threads when the topic comes up:

I think the opportunity to reign in public perception about photography copyrights is all but over. In a sad way, it's a moot point now.

The best you can do is create so much incentive for people to participate in the legitimate economy, that the efforts to pirate become less interesting and less profitable, yielding a progressively smaller proportion of that industry’s total economy.

Example: Seems Yahoo / Flickr / Tumblr had made a recent change towards sharing with attribution. They have dropped Wordpress / Blogger / Live Journal sharing support ( though sharing with HTML code is still possible ). It seems this includes sharing with Facebook and Pinterest also carries attribution?

FYI, I found that since I turned sharing *on* in Flickr, enabling sharing to Tumblr especially, the number of improperly-posted photos of mine on Tumblr has plummeted. Everything I find there now is properly sourced and linked from Flickr.

Frank, I don't worry about it in the least, and don't even check, but every other thread on here is about having images stolen saying "what can I do".

I'm now following you on Flickr Frank. I am at https://www.flickr.com/photos/gmsimages/.

too have received some interesting inquiries that resulted in small sales through Flickr. I'm not sure how to use it effectively as a sales tool especially when they frown upon commercial use.

Frank J Casella

Found you Gary! Speaking of commercial use: One thing I've noticed on your posts and on other FAA artists posts as well is that you put the link to your AW in the photo description.

You're not suppose to link to a site with a shopping cart on your photo posts, only on your profile. www.flickr.com/help/faq/search/?q=links+on+photostream

I'm going to start linking to my about.me on my photo posts, however, so far I'm still getting referrals without posting a link at on on my photos and only on my profile.

I posted my link on another thread but here it is..

I mostly post photos, but have posted a few paintings...Somehow I feel this site is geared in more for photography than art...I wonder if it is wise to have two separate accounts... one for photography and one for painting!?
