Do You Believe In Luck?

Do you believe in luck?
Often, I think I am a very lucky person.
This morning, my next door neighbor commissioned a painting from me. It was done through our backyard fence in less than 5 minutes. In the afternoon, a buyer drove more than an hour to my home and brought a painting. This evening, I received a e-mail from a TV producer I met last year ( I was the feature artist in her program), She wanted me to know her husband will be calling me tomorrow about commissioning a painting from me.
All these happened without leaving my house!

I think you just proved it exists :) Congratulations...although your wonderful work had to have a lot to do with it

Some would call it luck, I say it's the just reward for years of hard work to develop your professional reputation.

Because you believe your lucky person you extend that out to the universe and it acknowledges it.

I believe in Karma. You have been sowing the seeds for artistic and monetary success nearly all your life and it continues to pay off. Also think you could've been having a really good astrological day! Bunch of planets making happy with your chart ;o)

i believe more in karma then luck, but i did find a $20 at a fair i just went to. i looked down, and saw money in a tight, stick of gum folded kind of way. no markings, my guess is, they put it in a pocket where their phone was and it slipped out. i later found out how much. my good luck is their bad luck. i feel a little bad, but it's not like i could find the owner. the karma i believe in more if i believed in anything. do good, get good, and vice versa. though i find when i get a good struck of luck, it's followed either by bad down the road. like free money, no sales later on.

I believe in convergence. All three of these things happened as a result of an earlier action.

The more I think about it, the more I think life is JUST about convergence. If you spend time thinking about all the convergences in life it will both amaze you and blow your mind. What led up to the convergence of your mother meeting your father? Their mother and father...and so on.

A nasty car accident is caused by two people leaving at a specific time. A few seconds earlier or later by either party and the accident may have never happened. How many accidents have we avoided by leaving when we did?

Somewhere in space is an asteroid floating around like it has for thousands, if not millions of years, one little bump into another asteroid and it is on a collision course for planet earth, maybe your neighborhood!

Everything can be traced back to earlier events. Those events can be traced back to earlier events. Millions and millions of convergences a day that will, ultimately, lead to millions and millions of additional convergences.

Not luck, Alfred, no....not anymore than calling someone an "overnight success."
You plant seeds.....and one never knows what will pop up, if anything...but you must keep planting. You have, you do. It pays off....today in spades!
Congratulations, SO well deserved, my friend!

Alfred,

This is all about planting "seeds" and some bloom and others wither. You had a great bouquet of these seeds blooming and the results "felt" like luck, something you had no part of, but in reality, you had planted these seeds a long time ago..........

Well, either luck or Karma maybe it is my way of positive thinking. I don't worry much about if anyone will find my works or if it sells. I just keep making them with my best efforts. It seems to works for me. Often, things happened in my life which i had no explanations but luck. Like the time I was struck by a car but able to walk out of the hospital without
a scratch and the mugging last Christmas...

I believe that if you throw all your passion into something that you enjoy - you will be rewarded for your efforts.

Luck - is just taking chances.

People love your efforts Alfred.

So called "luck" is the result of all of your hard work and planning. The photographer that gets the "lucky shot" is in the right place at the right time, has the skills and equipment at the ready at all times, so when the unexpected happens they are ready for it.

I don't think what you're describing is "luck", Alfred. I tend to think more like the others who say it's your hard work and talent paying off. Either way...congratulations, and I wish you more continued success!

I don't believe in luck, Alfred, nor karma or coincidence. You have been blessed because of the blessing your life and your art are to this world. ... and what Marlene and Diane said.

Bob Galka

No.

Crista Forest

No luck. All those things happened because of your previous efforts. Would your neighbor have commissioned a painting if you'd never previously made the effort to befriend your neighbor and show them your work? Would the TV producer have called if you hadn't met her through your efforts to be featured the year before?

"Do You Believe In Luck?"

Yes. And Karma. And coincidence. And blessings, and all of the things mentioned above because:

Your belief makes it so.

Everybody is right. That's why there are so many wars fought. Your belief makes it so... FOR YOU.

I think words like, "luck" and "blessed/blessings", as well as concepts like success being the inevitable result of superior talent, skill, perseverance, etc. are fun to ponder. And Alfred, as is plainly obvious, your work is superb. Whatever success you may continue to enjoy is certainly commensurate with your talent and well-deserved.

But I would then ask, what about the flip side? There are many other artists here who are also superb and don't necessarily mirror your success, even if their marketing efforts match or exceed your own. Does that make them, "unlucky"? Are they "un-blessed"? There are roughly 7 billion people on the planet. What percentage are singled out and rewarded for anything out of the ordinary, regardless of topic or field? A tiny fraction. Clearly, it requires a combination of factors to be successful as defined by this discussion.

Let's step away from FAA for a moment. We have all experienced musical groups that are prominent enough to be millionaires or perform at the Grammy's and we've thought they were terrible and perhaps wondered how the universe works when these groups are at the pinnacle of success while the struggling band that plays the local bar every Wednesday night is fifty times better. Extrapolate that to the stage, screen and every other art form. There are great talents on this planet that are duly rewarded. There are great talents that will forever be obscure. There are horrible talents that will be rewarded. Only the first of those three examples would seem logical, no?

Bottom line for me? Be the best you can possibly be, whatever your craft. That's the part you can directly control. You can also take steps to increase the odds of being discovered and becoming successful. But you will still need that brass ring and there's no guarantee the brass ring will come your way. If it does, reach for it with all your might and consider yourself lucky it was presented to you in the first place. If it never comes your way, at least love yourself enough to not require external validation of your work.

There is a syncronicity to the universe and it is not random or luck.

Samuel, I like your thoughtful take on "luck". I had a class mate in art school and he was the most talented one in our class but after we graduate we has no desire to enter into the art world. he paints for himself on the weekend and never shows his works to anyone.. I think there are many like him in the world. still being able to has that chance still required some luck, being in the right place at the right time.

I got a sale email today and when I went to behind the scenes and realized I had four other sales which I didn't get any emails alert. well that's got to be luck/karma!
