If I Ruled The World

If I ruled the world,
Every day would be the first day of spring,
Every heart would have a new song to sing,
And we'd sing of the joy every morning would bring.

If I ruled the world,
Every man would be as free as a bird,
Every voice would be a voice to be heard,
Take my word we would treasure each day that occurred.

My world would be a beautiful place,
Where we would weave such wonderful dreams.
My world would wear a smile on its face,
Like the man in the moon has when the moon beams.

If I ruled the world,
Every man would say the world was his friend,
There'd be happiness that no man could end,
No my friend, not if I ruled the world.

Every head would be held up high,
There'd be sunshine in everyone's sky,
If the day ever dawned when I ruled the world.
Leslie Bricusse

Tony thinks of himself as a painter...
He's a painter who made his money singing and throughout his singing career hardly missed a day without picking up his paint brush, even while on the road and even now at 88 years old!
He's still singing and painting!
Bravo!!

I wish you did rule the world, Tony ;)

Isn't it great he still does this at 88! Perhaps painting keeps us young? To be able to find joy in life as we get older...an inspiration!

I saw Tony 26 years ago at a benefit concert for Woody Herman. I went specifically to see some of the other acts and wasn't particularly interested in Tony. I came away with a whole new respect for that guy -- he was the highlight of the night. His power, class and charisma were amazing. I was pretty much blown away.

thanks, Markene...I "like" Tony's page on FB and have seen his posts about the duet...but I haven't taken the time to see that one yet. I like Gaga...and the duet with Amy Winehouse is excellent also.

Dan...I've met Tony on 5 ave. for a brief hello and handshake, but have never seen him sing. Nice to hear your description of the event and how it has lasted for you.

My in laws saw Tony not long ago in Des Moines. They were so impressed that a man of his age still had the pipes, but that he also stood for his entire performance. My youngest son, Brad was asked by Lady Gaga's people to design a tshirt for the record release of Tony/Lady's new music. Six degrees of separation.

you're welcome, Lois

Kevin...cool...how did the t-shirt design job come about?....have an image of it yet?

Yes, Tony's voice has performed remarkably well in his old age...unlike poor Frank S...he kind of lost his towards the end.

A response to the death of Nelson Mandela with some comments regarding what I would do if I ruled the world at the link below:

Lawrence, I have not seen it, sometimes the stylists request the work then it gets done and goes nowhere. I have not asked.

Geordie...wonderful tribute to Mandela.
btw...Leslie Bricusse wrote the words.
