Sunday

I'm sitting out on my deck with Gracie, my boxer/lab mix, enjoying a lazy August Sunday afternoon. Got up early this morning and put a pork shoulder on to cook in the oven roaster, seasoned it up nicely, braised it, caramelized some onions in the skillet after I put the pork shoulder in the oven roaster, poured a Yuengling Black and Tan in to deglaze the skillet with the onions, then poured it all on top of the pork shoulder, covered it and smelling it as it cooks. After I got that up and going, I whipped up some yummy french toast and bacon for the gang, nice fresh pot of coffee and now I'm kicked back waiting on the pork roast to finish. Once it's falling off the bone I'll take it out, pull it the rest of the way off the bone, put some bar-b-que in, little more Yuengling, let it simmer about an hour or so, then I am done for the day.

Now granted this doesn't take place every Sunday, but when it does it's ooohhhhh so good and such a nice treat for everyone. Maybe I'll walk out in the garden later to see if there's a hummingbird zipping around that I might be able to coax into sitting still long enough to take a picture of it. Then again, maybe not!

How's your Sunday going?

Melinda

P.S. Maybe a little cold watermelon later on this evening.

Not that good ;) But I know I am incredibly hungry for some reason...enjoy!

Good Sunday, Melinda!

My day is not going quite as well as yours (evidenced by the lack of roasting pork). ;-)

However, I began work around 3 a.m., posted new artwork a few hours later, ran a few lazy-Sunday errands with my crazy, but mostly benign, sister, and am about 30 minutes from ending work for the day.

Much too hot to drink coffee, or go outside in the afternoon (expecting what feels like our 8,000th day of triple-digit temps), but the A/C is cranked up and doing a so-so job.

in other words -- all is well, but chocolate ice cream would improve this Sunday, significantly!. :-)

Out before sunrise shooting the moon setting over Puget Sound, came home with a hundred and some shots that don't look like anything special but that's ok because it looked pretty good live if you appreciate subtle beauty (i do). Item 2 on the list was to launch toyboattoyboattoyboat (14 ft electric whitehall) and check the crab pots...came up empty but there are just enough waiting in the crab hotel back at the dock so that everyone can have one each for dinner. After a bit of web surfing, I headed out to do a "neighborhood patrol" on my electric bicycle and ended up finishing the morning up in the garage working on a wooden boat that I have been building (very slowly). Finally, I find myself here reading your thread while I enjoy my lunch.
so far...so good.

edit to add:i just noticed that toyboattoyboattoyboat is with me in my avatar.

yeah me too. i missed when i was shooting nails in. it was an interesting sensation because it felt like i hit my arm, i think i hit the medial nerve which was around there and felt it up and down my arm. still hurts, there is like a 3" bruise on my hand that is barely visible.

It's interesting you should ask about this Sunday Melinda . ... out in the back yard with the Weber, which backs up to the preserve, we see deer frolicking through again. Haven't seen this in several months. I wonder if the Coyote have migrated away? So far we count 19 deer .... good to see.

Wow, 19 deer! That has to be really nice to have that right at your back yard! Mike, I'm glad you didn't break anything either.

I found a grungy looking 2 tier garden fountain with a pineapple at the top in the alley yesterday.

Today I tested it and heard the pump running but wasn't pumping any water. The fountain turns out to be cast aluminum that was painted. The paint was all peeling off and the aluminum had a white crust all over. So I dismantled it to get to the pump to see if I could get it work before cleaning up the rest of the fountain. Of course there was a lot of built up crud surrounding the pump, but eventually I cleaned it all out and flushed the pump out back and forth a couple of times and finally go it to pump water ;O) And a very quiet little pump it is.

So I spent the rest of the day peeling off the remaining paint and wire brushing the corrosion off the aluminum. Didn't get it down to shiny metal, but enough so it looked ok. While putting it all back together I cracked the plastic pipe adapter that connected the pump to the plastic tube that feed the little pineapple at the top ;O(

It looks like something common that I should be able to find at the HomeDepot tomorrow.

Googled the fountain and found the exact one and it seems to cost around $250 - $300 yippey

Day of rest... ? Nooo.
Lately Saturdays have been my (more) restful day.

Today entailed the painting of ceiling in 3 rooms. Actually got them done, with a bit of corner touch ups to do. Carpet is coming later on this week, so hubby moved some furniture into the basement. Absolute chaos - & I am not dealing with the disruption well.

I would have preferred : finding an old fountain, eating pulled pork & watermelon - with chocolate ice cream for desert.

Such a pretty puppy, Boxers are so intelligent & make wonderful companions.

@Janine -- Wish I were there! I live and breathe DIY! ;-)
