Did You Ever Rent Cameras To Try Them

I remember in about 1998 I went to Calumet in Chicago quite a bit and got to know the camera rental guy pretty well. I wanted to rent some cameras to try, and he took my credit card and said "don't worry, I'll just keep it on file and wont charge you till you come back, just don't damage it". I was stoked because they are suppose to take the amount off your credit card of the full price of the equipment your renting until you come back, just in case. I for sure didn't have 7 grand for some of those. I rented every type of camera I could for a year. Then one day I came in and he was gone. I was heartbroken, but so happy that I got to use all those cool cameras I could have never afford to pay for.

No, but it's a good idea. Also, you can rent a very expensive lens just for a vacation or the weekend.

I did the exact same thing at Calumet in Chicago. Especially when I did a few commercial shoots per year, I just billed the expense to the client. Now Calumet is gone though the memories are still there. I rented equipment like some guys test drive expensive cars.

Yes, I did and do rent Cameras as well as Lenses and other gear before I bought it (or if I had just one time use for it).

I rent from LensRentals.com
Good prices and excellent service. Same great experience than you guys.

no. because even to try them, you won't know them until you had them for a long while. its hard to know if you'll like something or not with a small sample. plus you'll always worry you'll damage it. and any programs you put in won't matter much later on. i just look at reviews and buy them.

That's what is good for you Mike, but I enjoyed every second of every camera I used for a week or weekend, and wish I could try everyone ever made. I got to know all the ones I tried pretty well and if they would be something I may want to buy in the future.
Mostly it was just plain fun.
