You probably need to ask more specific questions.

Pros are:

more money, of course
more exposure

Cons:

legal junk - contracts
more record-keeping

Some people also think it cheapens their art, depending on what products they license the images for.

What are your specific concerns?

pros -

more money
more exposure to a degree
more money

cons -

- depends how you deal with it. if you let the site do it, it shouldn't be that hard other than finding a price

- however that said, one purchase of a large image, means you'll never get a sale from that person again. a framer could buy 1 and print it a million times. right now if you don't have licensing, they have to buy it from you one at a time.

- depending on the subject - person, place, thing, someone else's copyright (statue or even borrowed images), trademarks, etc - you could get into A LOT of trouble and end up in court.

- while it might be laughed at, the indemnification clause should state that as far as you know these images are ok to use. and that your not responsible for the products made with your image on it (like it caused a seizure in someone). on this site you can modify the contract, but unless a lawyer reviews it, it might as well be scribbles on a napkin.

a real stock place will check all of these points with a fine toothed comb. logos on shirts of people outside, eye glass frame styles, pictures that have other people's art in it, and the list goes on of how it can get you in trouble later. even someone's house, if it's recognizable can get you in trouble. when licensing you have to be very careful what images you choose to license.

and of course- you also have to keep track of the contracts of who has what, and for how long. if someone buys it here, you won't know that, and you won't know if there is a conflict down the road. you also won't know if your images were just used in walmart, because you don't know who bought them. in person you have to negotiate terms which is a real pain. i hate licensing but i have done some. coming up with a price is a lot of work. easy for some because they pull it out of the air. and others who already have formula.
