Beware Of The Fb Messaging App

Just a heads up if you decide to continue using the FB messaging service. The terms of service and the permissions you grant when installing it are crazy.

that's an issue i've hated about facebook. even if you put their app on your phone, it will download all the phone numbers and then post those numbers in your about - of all your friends and list those numbers as well in your friends about as well. even if they didn't add it. so private numbers are now public. its one of the reasons i don't let it go through my contacts - on any site. they have a tendency to change privacy rules at will, don't tell you about them, and to repair them you have to dig down in to many sub menus.

overall it's best not to do too much with them. they seem to be more invasive than ever when they went public.

I agree with all of you but get used to it. The Age of Privacy is long gone. Big Brother has us all by the short hairs.

@Robert - It is, but even for Facebook things like this are over the top

"Allows the app to call phone numbers without your intervention. This may result in unexpected charges or calls. Malicious apps may cost you money by making calls without your confirmation."

"Allows the app to record audio with microphone. This permission allows the app to record audio at any time without your confirmation."

"Allows the app to take pictures and videos with the camera. This permission allows the app to use the camera at any time without your confirmation."

Simple solution: Quit using apps. ;)

Right on Greg! I don't have a smart phone, and I won't until I have no choice....but allowing any site to access your personal device through an app is just asking for trouble anyway. TOS or not.

I still use an old MotoRazr flip phone, that is capable of making/receiving calls. Plus, I can take a picture with it if I want to. That's all I need. :)
