I studied the work, and teachings of, Gary Bernstein years ago. Amazing what one may learn from photographers like this.

I suppose it should be noted that these types of product shots often involve other people---ie producers, designers, editors, and art directors.
Bernstein often elaborated on information that these people conveyed to him in setting up shots like this.
