I just opened the door to both of you -- Welcome!! The place is new so we're still settling in, but we'll be rolling in no time!

Yo Pedro

I'm a little out of the loop on Linkedin, but I did manage to join your group.

Frank J Casella

I'll look for you, Yo Pedro, though I don't see you yet. But that's one of the things we can discuss there - how to use the platform and to get your audience to find you.

Frank J Casella

Yo Pedro -- Haven't seen you yet .... click the link in the original post at top here. When on LinkedIn look for the gold "Join" button and click it.

Val Arie

I think I just joined...don't go there much.

J L Meadows

I started to join, but LinkedIn wants too damn much personal info. So it can spam your mailbox, probably.

Mike Savad

i've been there in the past, but i kept getting strangers wanting to connect with me, and it became really annoying. i haven't been back to that site since.

Val -- Found you ... Welcome ! Set your group settings to email you with each new topic and you'll go there more often. When on the group page look at the top right --> " I " -- > Your Settings.

J L and Mike -- Hope this article is helpful to you:

12 Ways Artists can Use LinkedIn to Promote Their Art Businesses Online

Frank,
I did manage to join. My Linkedin id is Peter Lopez, but my ID here is YoPedro. So that is something I will have to deal with.

Frank J Casella

Okay ... thanks. How's this ..when you post a comment in Linked just sign it Yo Pedro ??

J L Meadows

Read the article. My god, I have to do all that?

Val Arie

Thank you Frank...I will do that.

Frank J Casella

You're welcome Val ... its all about helping each other make it through life.

JL -- Yep !! ..... Just Kidding !! Start with item One, when you are ready move to item Two .... etc. The most important activity is to participate in the groups, that will bring you the most networking response other than keywords in your profile.

Val Arie

I just read the article too...is a good one. I tend to make an account on these different sites and then seldom go back.

April Moen

Got your invite and joined. Thanks, Frank!

What is networking for? Why would an artist need it?

Frank J Casella

J L -- For starters because business comes from relationships. Yours would be a great question to ask in the group over there!.

The big secret about LinkedIn is that, its not who you know, its who THEY know = Networking. I've made more contacts in fifteen minutes than I ever made all day at a networking event. Many of those contacts have given me business .....

J L Meadows

^Oh, you mean contacts for freelance, assigned work. I'm not much into that.

Frank J Casella

Yes, J L, that and corporates, offices, interior designers, decorators, architects, collectors and all art lovers.

J L Meadows

Some guy from About.me contacted me about collaborating with him. I doubt it'll happen.

I have been on Linked-In for years.... Joined probably 15 years ago, when I worked as a Project Manager in the Environmental Compliance field... But, it seems that now, to be active, you have to pay for an upgraded version.....

I changed my description/profile in 2014 when I joined FAA...... so that my art/photography work is now my focus... But I still get posts and comments related to my previous work.

So, in my case, what suggestions would you have ..... so that I can be more recognized in art/photography.

Thanks. And would I need to be paying for the upgrade... and how much is it?

Frank J Casella

Linda, firstly you don't need the upgrade. Most of the people who have it don't know how to use the platform, the rest are HR recruiters and top sales professionals.

With regards to your profile summary, the first sentence is about your previous work. The search engine on LinkedIn reads your headline and summary. Since your previous work you are no longer doing, I would remove it from your summary. The experience headings are read by Google and other search engines, your previous work is there where it belongs.

So do that and give it a couple weeks or so and see what happens.

This 100-Year-Old To-Do List Hack Still Works Like A Charm

The “Ivy Lee Method” is stupidly simple, and that’s partly why it’s so effective.

I keep meaning to do more with LinkedIn.

I get into it for a few days but then lose interest again.

Thank-you, Frank, for continually bumping this three-year old thread (has it really been that long) with interesting links.

Why is the Pixels group still private though? It doesn't really help anyone get found.

Frank J Casella

Yes, Michel, this is really a three-year thread. And I should create a new one, but I like how it has aged, I'll think about it though. You present a good questions: Why is the Pixels group on LinkedIn private? Because that is how the groups are set up now.

The good part is they are now more productive, with the best feature of groups to extend your connections: because you can communicate with group members as you can with your connections. I should talk more about that here, but I've taken it for granted. So your question is welcomed.

At one time groups were allow to be public, but they caused more spammers. Some people think the private groups were the death of them, but those were the people more interested in their comments showing up in their connections feeds, instead of doing true networking in the groups.

For the Pixels group, we need to do a better job of talking about how to use the powerful LinkedIn platform for the business of Art. So, post or comment on content and lets see what happens.

Here are the LinkedIn Guidelines for Groups: https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/1164?lang=en

It's the spamming in groups that put me off LinkedIn.

I was hoping to network with people involved in travel and tourism but it was mainly the bloggers who wanted to drop links to their latest posts that made themselves known.

https://www.linkedin.com/groups/2951997

That's not having a discussion or networking.

:(

You're exactly right, Michel, and the new rules for LinkedIn groups is no self promotion (though same managers still allow it). Our group became very quiet when I started to enforce it, as they were posting like if it were Twitter, if you will.
