Need Help To Id A Butterfly.

Location: South-Central Kansas, USA

I know that the general type of butterfly is a Skipper, but I'm having trouble identifying which specific type. I've looked at a ton of sites about butterflies and also sites specifically about Kansas. The Fiery Skipper and the Least Skipper seem to be the common orange-colored Skippers in this area, but the one I photo graphed doesn't look like either of those to me.

Any suggestions???

Looks like a moth to me.

it could be a Northern Golden Skipper.

It is a skipper of some type, Here is a site that may help you to identify your butterfly. If you can not find it you can submit it to them on line and they will get you an answer.

That looks to me to be a male Dakota Skipper (Hesperia dacotae) and on the candidate list for endangered species. The females wings are darker with white marks.

@ Susan - The quickest way for me to tell the difference between a butterfly and a moth is to look at their antennae. A moth's kinda looks like a feather (usually) and a butterfly kinda looks like a stick that has a club on the end of it (always).

@ Alfred and Melissa - Thanks for the suggestions. I looked them up but I'm still not 100% sure.

@ Michael - I love that site! Have used it many times. If no one here knows then I may end up sending it in to them.
