Pixels.com

Why are all the image links of fineartamerica.Com coming up as pixels. Com?

they are both the same site. it depends which links your talking about though. if it's from a search, they indexed it that way.

Go Behind the Scenes | DOMAINS and you will see all the details about the sites

I am not sure why your links are coming up like that unless, you followed someone's link that pointed to that site and are now there instead of on FAA :)

If somone is logged into Pixels.com and post on the forum it will show up as a

Pixels link. The forum is one and the same for FAA and Pixels so depending

on where they are logged in at, or grab the url for their images from, it may

show up from Pixels even if you are logged into FAA.

I understand they are the same site, but they are different domains. Here is what happened to cause me to ask this question. I was clicking on links posted by other artists in the group "The Road to Self Promotion" and even though the link said fineartamerica.com/featured/blah-blah when I clicked on it, pixels.com/featured/blah-blah came up. I had to log in again under pixels.com even though I was already logged in under finartamerica.com. And this happened not just for one link, but many, i.e. greater than 10-20.

I've had that happen the other way around, especially when an artist ops out of Pixels and only wants to participate on FAA. But then I'm always on Pixels because that will become the main site.

Until the changeover I prefer FAA it is where I signed up. It has a classier feel to the

first two parts of the name. Fine Art...hoping more will invest in my art. But it would

be nice to have a universal being logged in to all sites no matter where we entered

from since it is all the same art.

"But then I'm always on Pixels because that will become the main site."

There is absolutely zero chance of that happening as long as content is being duplicated from FAA. If Pixels is to be the main site, it has to have different content or FAA has to be killed off.

Pixels IS becoming the head site. Then all the fine arts will be under its umbrella

This is because of the products that will be offered on pixels and not on the fine arts

Donna Walsh

So, was the redirect this morning part of configuring pixels to be the head site?

For those who have business cards and other printed material, can we assume that our artistwebsites address won't change?

Mike Savad

pixels can only become the main site if faa drops totally. but 95% of the links go here, and if that happens, the site dies. as far as google is concerned, faa is the main site because it was first. i would really hate to see all my links break if faa becomes a minor site.

The premium site is separate entity and would not change... the links here wont change either. It would just mean really that support will come from there more than here...

Andee Design

So any payments etc will start coming from Pixels and the watermark will change to Pixels?

Abbie Shores

Probably not lol

I am not sure what it will mean but that is what Sean has said on more than one occasion including last week. Pixels will become the parent site

Thanks.

the only thing i don't like about pixels is the name. fine art suggests gallery. pixels is more like a zazzle name. if there was a way to denote the sound of fine quality, then i'd send people using that link.

Just my "five cents"...

Google, Yahoo and Bing don't like to index duplicate content.

If Pixels and FAA have the same products, the search engines will ignore one of them. Pixels will be the "victim" because FAA is older.

Laurie Tsemak

Totally agree, Mike. One name is classy; one is ... not so much.

@ Rick - "Google, Yahoo and Bing don't like to index duplicate content."

That's not just your "five cents," Rick. That is fact!

Disclaimer: I am not an SEO expert. But I've been involved with Internet Affiliate Marketing since 1999 and do follow those kinds of trends.

I still don't understand any of it as to Google, but accept the word that faa wants Pixels to dominate.
But, I signed on to FAA , Fine Art, and it was promised phonecases, etc, would not be sold on FAA, but my site images at FAA now promote iphone cases, which I dont'/won't sell..........and those links are to pixels, I suppose - point being........a broken promise about FAA......and an annoyance to me, a Fine Artist.
my 2cents.
All this is redundant.
Good questions, Philip Sweeck.

I always find something interesting about SEO from this source:

"What is Duplicate Content?

Duplicate content is content that appears on the Internet in more than one place (URL). When there are multiple pieces of identical content on the Internet, it is difficult for search engines to decide which version is more relevant to a given search query. To provide the best search experience, search engines will rarely show multiple duplicate pieces of content and thus, are forced to choose which version is most likely to be the original—or best."

Philip Does this mean that the update that is coming is mainly about pixels and the offering of new products?

No

I'm sorry that my statement about Pixels being the main site cause such concern. I'm just going by what Sean said, as Abbie referred to. I'm sure that Sean has everything in our best interest, as he has shown before, so why don't we wait until he tells us what it's going to be. Otherwise its all speculative concern.

Mary Ellen Anderson

Well my first reaction to Abbie saying pixel would dominate does concern me, but I'm assuming that the division will be more between commercial and fine art and each site will have different content.

Other than a business path that is geared to specific markets, just duplicating yourself on the internet is pointless as we've all only an electron apart. I also can't see Sean taking what is apparently a successful business model and just dropping it. And I'm sure that Abbie and others have said FAA not going anywhere.

Abbie, do you know if this is a market separation or main-stream path?

If you are confused, imagine how confused potential buyers must be.

Mike Savad

i still don't understand what difference it made. if you have art here and art there, phone and such i don't consider commercial use, it's a pod they are made one at a time and not mass produced. the name of the site wouldn't matter in a court of law anyway, so having two sites never made sense to me.

at the very least right now, stuff on pixels should have a pixels watermark, and any of the other sites should have it's related watermark and mentionings. it only confuses those that log in here otherwise.

Edward Fielding's comment is worth of repeating: "If you are confused, imagine how confused potential buyers must be.

Edward Fielding

Hmmm where could the confusion occur? I search for an image of the Brooklyn Bridge for my office. Up pops Pixels.com and FAA with the same image. I like it so I click on it. Oh here is a site that sells fine art, hmmm ok what about this other one, oh this one sells phone cases and something called licensing. Oh look its only $5 here on this licensing page. What is licensing? I guess I can print it out myself. Oh but then I have to get it framed. Maybe I'll go back the the fine art site, hmmm shipping is very expensive, maybe I'll see if its any different on this Pixels site.

Looks to be about the same, I'll get it. Oh look at this in the shopping cart. It says I can print my own stuff? What if I license this for $5 and then upload it? Maybe that will be the way to go.

And there is this box that says enter a coupon code. Maybe I'll go and search for a coupon code. Oh look, when I was searching around I found this other art site. Maybe I'll check that out....

Okay, so... Because I just signed up on FAA in 2013, but didn't post anything until 7-25-14, I was reading another discussion, and I clicked on the photo link from an artist, which showed his photo on pixels.com. That freaked me out, because I thought I was reading a discussion on faa.com. Then I did a search for pixels.com in the discussion search box and this particular discussion came up. I wanted to reply, but at the bottom of the page, it said I had to sign in on pixels.com, in order to comment. I saw a comment from somebody that said to look at Behind the Scenes and click on Domains to read about it, so I did. It says I can login to pixels.com with my same user name and password as for faa, so I did. Now, I am able to reply here. So, I don't know if I should stay on FAA or move to pixels.com? Seeing how I am just getting started and I only have 24 images right now, I would rather switch now, while I only have a few, rather than uploading a lot more and then having to switch. I looked myself up on pixels.com and saw that my watermark on my photos is still FAA. I guess that won't change, but not sure. I note that Vivian Anderson says she was told FAA would not be selling phone cases and they are. I looked at the products on pixels.com on my own page and I don't see any other products being offered any different thatn on FAA. Perhaps I should sign out and look on pixels.com again to see if they have any other products? Who is Sean? I have been reading a lot of discussions, and I really appreciate the help. Diane

So, I logged in to pixels.com and uploaded a new photo and the watermark still comes out as FAA. It seems they are all the same site anyway, but I'm confused about that. Input please?
