My Tribute To Hard Working Laborers

Hi All,
I was inspired to create a tribute to the Hard Working Laborers in our workforce. Once I started it was hard to stop (something I'm working on). I would love get your take on this.

I think it conveys what you say. If I had a nit about it, it would be the duplication of the tape ruler.

I like it.

Beautiful collage Davina! It portrays the blue collar trades clearly although maybe a little too generic to sell well (see Mike Savad's trades art). Clever use of blue paint as a texture giving definition, color interest in addition to all the other objects and textures. I'm wondering how many in the trades could afford a print starting at $62. The style is sophisticated could be translated and narrowed to specific professions such as painter, carpenter, engineer, architect, doctor, teacher, scientist, etc.

I would leave this image exactly like it is, as mentioned maybe replacing the other identical measuring tape with some type of ruler, level or other object enabling workers in the trades to identify even more with your collage.

This is great Davina.. I can see this hanging in just about any trade supplies center the world over. My only gripe is.. we prefer the term "skilled tradesmen" or "professional" over labourer. Maybe it's a British thing, but tradesmen apprentice for at least 4 years before they are qualified and labourers can walk in off the street.. Good stuff though!
edit:Suzanne... The market for this would be with the suppliers rather than the tradesmen (the last thing I'd want to see hanging on my wall after a hard days graft is a reminder of whats coming tomorrow:-)

Excellent Davina.

Following on Barry's thought - I think you've caught, in your image, the marks of a 'skilled tradesman' rather than a common laborer - where I would think of someone doing the "grunt" work - not that skilled tradesmen aren't laborers compared with office/desk types.

and then at Barry - I don't know - it's an excellent painting - and many skilled tradesmen are justifiably proud of their labor. I read the story just last evening of a man who completed his 4 years at University with a degree in business - got married and left the city behind to become a farm laborer - now has his own rather small farm of 40 acres, still his wife, and a couple of young'ns that will be able to help on the farm in a couple of years. Said he couldn't be happier.

Hi All,
Thank you all so much for your opinions. They help me tremendously. While working on it, I did duplicate the tape measure because I really liked it and I could stop myself from adding it again, my inner voice told me not to do it but, I just couldn't resist it. My mother is constantly telling me, "it's not about YOU". For my art, I understand what she is saying but, I struggle with it sometimes. I've started working on a Golf theme with my father in mind.
