Terrified!

I do a lot of crazy stuff painting houses, but this one was a trick. I only have 4 inches between the area I have to paint and a window. I made sure everything was tight. BUT when I got to the top and realized the ladder was only a couple of inches from going through the window I had a couple of panic attacks.

I photoshopped the ladder. It's scary looking at the photoshopped ladder.

yeah i was gonna say, it looks like one of those black opts ladders...

you need one of those amazon drones to hold the brush for you.

Steve, I operate a handyman service, and can certainly relate to that panic feeling, I often do gutter clean outs and found myself just sitting on the roof not wanting to get up. As I get older my prices have increased a lot for that service, but I still have people say Ok when can you do it? I don't do 2 story at any price.

while it's not all that practical, and it would be hard on the arms, hair and eyes, i think they sell a paint brush holder that mounts in a painters pole. it screws on, there is a clamp on one end that holds the brush and a joint. dipping in the paint would be a challenge and getting it on smooth and nice would be hard - and not dripping it on anything would be an issue. but for a small run where you could either break a window or die - it might be worth a shot.

You need a bucket truck.

I know exactly what you're talking about Mike. She could have hired a contractor that does that. When someone says to me "It doesn't have to be perfect" I reply,, yes it does.

That is one high roof line, I would simply pass on that job. I did roof pressure cleaning for a few years and I got it out of my system with no broken bones, and I aim to keep it that way. I can't avoid going on roofs totally in my business but I try to keep it to a minimum and when the pay is excellent only. Hope you got top dollar for that job Steve, and even that doesn't do much for that scary feeling that can overcome you up there.

I can't drive a truck around her yard,,lol. Look at her yard! I had to set the ladder so it wouldn't kill her stuff in the yard,, look at the bottom of the ladder,,trees, shrubs, flowers,, etc. I have to be careful of that too.

Steve,

When a few years ago, I was working with a GC, he hired a huge bucket for this old home in Orlando, historic district. But there was a lot of old plantings around the house and we couldn't really get close. It was 3 stories and we both went up in the bucket. It was extended as far as it could reach, all on sheets of 4x8 plywood and THEN tilted as far as it could go!!! We were around 30 feet up and he was measuring moulding and stuff and the little red light kept flashing and he said,, "oh don't worry, they all do this!". We finally got down and 2 weeks later, I found out a year ago, he tipped a bucket, with him and an assistant at about the same height! LAst time for me!

Mario, I knew I set everything up right. I never doubted myself or my set up on the ladder. I knew it was secure,,, but,, being an inch from crashing through a window,, Like I said I was TERRIFIED.

When working at those heights any thing can go wrong, a bee sting, a strong wind, equipment failure, I can even come up with more, the fact that you were that close to the glass only compounds the terror, I'll probably dream about it now. lol

I used to clean windows, I loved the job... Ladder work was the best part of the job.. I have been in a similar situation to this on many occasions, the worst of these being on deceptively soft ground which the ladder slowly sinks into the longer your on it, getting lower and closer to the window by the minute. Twice I've had to jump to avoid smashing the window and a few times I've had to jerk the ladder away from the building and quickly climb down while it's "floating" at the top.. exciting stuff.. never injured myself! got lucky every time.. I'm eagerly awaiting jet-pack efficiency to improve for tasks such as this ;)
