Light Rays

Hi

Yesterday I was out with my camera shooting some video of ducks. The sun was shining very brightly and when I looked through the camera lens it seemed that it was raining light!!! To the extent it looked like a fuzzy tv channel, however when I moved to another area and put it on again it was ok. I recorded it, and the water and ducks underneath which seemed to almost throw up sparks like a little glowing firework pools of white star lights.

Perhaps this is common, however it is not something I have come across before. Has anyone else?

Mary J,

Hello! Here's a shot and you need to read my description that I just uploaded, but this was similiar to your experience and doesn't happen very often! Congrats!

Susan,

Thank you, but this doesn't justify what I first saw! It was like a million Christmas white lights on that tree next door and by the time I got my camera, memory card, it had started to dissipate!

The crepe myrtle tree has little round leaves and each one was holding some rainwater and the sunlight coming through each and every drop, was amazing! Nearly killed myself running down the hallway with the camera and the cat decided to lay down!

I just saw something very similar recently that someone posted on Facebook. In that case I'm sure it was the sun's reflection from the surface of the moving water creating vertical fuchsia flares on the camera lens. The flare color was unmistakeable as a common color with lens flares. The flare(s) dissipated when the camera was pointed up toward the shade of a bridge. The flares moved because the water moved that was reflecting the sun. The person who posted the video didn't understand what it was or where it was coming from and jumped so far to a conclusion as to suggest it appeared to be a "portal". lol

Brian,

Right you are! I have very few "flare shots",since most of the time, I'm trying to prevent them!

Hi, if you have a facebook page, email me the address and I will post the little video clip and you can tell me what you think I don't think it was a flare as such but I would be interested to know. Many thanks.
