How To Post On Twitter

I know we can post directly to Twitter when we first upload an image here. And I know that you can use the Twitter social button on the AW sites on the image. When I post to Twitter when I originally upload an image, it shows the image on Twitter with the phrase that it is new and for sale. However, if I go to my AW site and use the Twitter share button, it just posts the link. I also tried copying and pasting the AW url for the particular image I just uploaded, but that only gives a link, too, with no image. Is the only way to get image posted on Twitter by doing it on upload? Or am I doing something wrong posting the other ways? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

On upload or edit is the only way to get the canvas preview to show and only with

whatever info is pre added no way to edit it that and if you do it from the AW it will

still only link to FAA even if it looks like an AW link it will not take you there you

will be redirected to the FAA pages.

Carolyn, how do you talk to the stranger people on Twitter? on Facebook the people are your friends "they do not buy any thing" I do not have any friend on Twitter and
have not apply for Twitter account for afraid to talk to stranger!

Thanks, To-Tam

Thanks, Andee. It just seemed like I was seeing a lot from people posting recommending to go the route of posting directly to FB and Twitter from the AW site because it would link back to there instead of bringing people to the big FAA pool. I want to get people to stay with my images, especially if I am sending them there. So I guess I'm just as good off to just post directly from the upload screen. Most people are not going to click on a link that has a title to an image, at least I wouldn't think so. So, unless you have an image for them to see and interest them, the post does no good at all. Unless I'm missing something - and I very well could be!

To-Tam, I'm not the best one to answer that question for you. I have a Twitter account, have followers and have followed many. Many people "make friends" by following people that are interested in the same things they are. Some people use Twitter solely for selling work, which I don't think really works that well unless you are involved in the tweeting, re-tweeting and socializing with others. I haven't been doing a very good job of that, but I wanted to give it another try and see. If you to to the top of this screen or the discussions and enter Twitter in the "Search Discussions" box, you will find a lot of topics already here with some very good information on how to use Twitter. Do the same thing for Facebook. Many kind people here have even posted some very easy-to-understand instructions. Good luck to you!

you don't really talk to anyone there. it's more like you are screaming at a party and someone is maybe hearing you. and when you bring up a subject, there is always someone in the room that has a similar interest.

and so was saying FROG BLADDERS are the best. and then someone in that room will say - frog bladders? that's my favorite subject #FrogBladders. and they will look at your link, or if it's a non link, they may chat. but it's hard to chat because you only have a 140 characters to work with. in twitter though you have to find people and follow them. so in this case you would look up veterinarian, amphibian experts, frog lovers, anything to do with bladders, etc.

you just want curious people to look at the link. and that's what the hashtags are for. and if you can add chinese, or asian lettering, you may have a new audience. it would also diversify who see's your things. mostly you can't think of that place as a chat group, it's more like a big messy bulletin board.

Mike, that's just the best description of Twitter I have ever read.

@Mike - "Big messy bulletin board" is a perfect description. :-)

I agree with Cynthia! You created a perfect analogy for Twitter. Can I invited you to one of my parties??? So cool!

I guess like all the other social sites, it's pretty much trial and error. Andee, I just tried linking one of my reflection images using the AW link. I just deleted the last part of the supplied link (via Fine Art America). It took it directly to the image on my AW site. Didn't see any redirect to FAA, and the url shows my AW address.

Carolyn It only re-directs to FAA if you do the 'Auto Tweet' on ''Upload''

from your 'Aw'. Just a standard link can go directly to the Aw.

Oh, I see what you mean. I always do all my uploads from FAA. Hardly ever get behind the scenes for settings from the AW side. Thanks!

Andee and Carolyn,

The AW? I am new. AW is artistwebsite?

I have seen the social media options for FB, FB fan page and Twitter. I know where the behind the scenes tab is.

How do I get the best results adding a description and the image while linking it? I need viewers to be able to
click on the image and go to the sales sheet here on FAA? Should I do the 'auto tweet when uploading'? Or
should I do the AW? I am too new to fully get it yet.

Any help will be appreciated, TIA

Try to look at my profile Carolyn: https://twitter.com/Erian_A

I often use images and quotes in the posts, they provide many RTs and FAVs. There is also to say that in a few really are clicking the link...

David yes, the AW is the artist website.

I do the auto tweet on uploads because it shows a canvas preview that I feel is

helpful in showing art and not just showing a link. But I do the links later on and

add hash tags because you can not add the hash tags to those auto tweets.

David Bridburg

Andee, thanks. You are making it clearer. The hash tags are for searches. Links might be seen
as re-enforcement for where to buy the art.

Because I am so new to Twitter it looks hard to navigate. In fact when you
know the definitions of hash tags and links there is no problem.

I will use the auto-upload feature because I want the canvas preview as well. Big thanks
for that clarification.

First, David, welcome! Hope you do well here. Andee, thank you for responding so quickly. Appreciate you!

David, there is a wealth of information in the discussions here. Just type Twitter in the search box and you'll get all kinds of results. I am "still" trying to figure Twitter out and the best way to use it, Right now, I am doing what Andee does by posting directly to Twitter when I upload an image. As you'll probably read in many of the posts throughout the site, most people find social media one of the hardest things to figure out. One thing I do know is it takes time. You just have to dive in and find what works best for you using the tips others have graciously provided. I'm still working on that, too.

Andrea, I did look at your Twitter profile. I'm guessing you just inserted an image and then the links separately under it. My question would be whether we are putting the image in the creative commons or in Twitter's "we can do what we want to with it" basket by uploading it that way and it not being directly linked to another site. That was what I was trying to get around doing, and the only way I was finding to do that was at the time of original upload. I could be mistaken on my understanding, though. I thought I read somewhere (similar to Facebook) that if you upload an image directly (without it being directly linked to another site) you were giving rights to Twitter. There are so many different guidelines in their TOS, and it depends on whom you talk to as to what they all mean. I appreciate your information.

Carolyn thanks. I have been a lurker here for some time. I just joined roughly a couple of weeks ago. I searched out
the different art sales websites. I like FAA by far the best.

Try doing a search on FAA for digimarc. Bob Johnston began a great thread on digimarc and how to protect against piracy online.
Bob more clearly discusses his marketing campaigns with Pinterest and Twitter.

The question is not whether we will lose our copyright to the creative commons etc....but what are the trade offs of more people
seeing the art? Our copyrights are solidly in place regardless. Just because we have the law on our side does not mean
people will not steal our property. At the same time we need our work to be seen to sell it.

Bob Johnston's thread on Digimarc was begun less than two weeks ago. It was a huge help.
