Where Do You Live?

Roll Call. :)

I live in Asheville, North Carolina, a small (80,00) city in the Western part of the state. Known for arts, food, home-brewed beer and the Smoky Mountains, the area includes a diversity of people and lifestyles. First settled by Scots and Irish 300 years ago, the music here harkens back to those old-world traditions. The Mountain Dulcimer (sort of like a 3 string guitar) is the heart of storytelling songs. Clog dancing and other traditions brought by ancestors still make up part of the culture.

Being of Scottish heritage (my father's family can be traced to 1100 AD in East Lothian, Scotland), I love everything about living here.

My website currently features Asheville images and music. Check it out and then post where you live and a bit about it. We are, after all, a world-wide website and I am sure we have fascinating people from fascinating places.

Asheville, NC images set to Mountain Dulcimer music.

Currently we live in Panama City, FL due to my husbands military job, but we are moving to Asheville next month. We're very excited. We visited Asheville a couple years ago to attend a Lamaze Birth seminar and fell head over heels in love with the area. We're both originally from East TN, but we like the North Carolina side of the mountains better. ;)

At 79, I now live in the village of Washingtonville, New York, forty miles north-west of NYC... Looking out at all the greenery, from the window just beyond this computer.

I was recently displaced from the toxic community of Fredrick Shores, West Babylon, Long Island, New York, by the fury of Hurricane Sandy.

I consider myself as a True New Yorker, living my formative years in the bowels of Manhattan.

I like in Mali Vrtop. That's a tiny village in South-Eastern Serbia. It's closer to Bulgaria than to Belgrade. The village is very calm, which is perfect for painting. Plus it has lots of picturesque views - mountains, pretty houses, fields, flowers and lots more.

I live in the Netherlands, but originally I am from Latvia. Love took me to this small rainy country, but there are some advantages. We live in the south part- Tilburg. Not a city really to visit, but we are 80 km from Antwerp, 120 form Aachen, 500 from Paris. So , we can move fast and easy from country to country. In case you are coming to the Netherlands, let me know. We can help you with ides, trips and tricks....

I am actually a Yorkshire lass but now I live in Manchester, UK. Manchester is a thriving city full of the arts and artists. We have one of the best universities here in the world at the forefront of AI and other advances. Many of the top surgeons and medical innovations come from here.

The buildings here are an eclectic mix of original tudor, victorian, gothic and modern full glass buildings.

If you every visit, there is a huge amount to see and do with a mass of galleries, gothic style library (and other libraries) museums etc http://www.visitmanchester.com/articles/top-5s/

We have a Chinatown, Gay village and a lot of other places for people to visit or find out about

I am on the outskirts of the city but it is a short ride in to town and the shops are AMAZING

All this and my puppies and I

Saint Clair, Michigan on the opposite side of the state from Michelle....located on the Saint Clair River, I, indeed, unlike some famous politicians can see Canada from my house. (Well, if I get up on the roof). It's considered the "Blue Water" area of Michigan, just south of Port Huron, one of the oldest ports in the state. Saint Clair is right on the St. Clair River, and we have the longest fresh-water boardwalk in the world (according to Wikipedia). I think that must be an exaggeration, but it is pretty long...

It's nice to go down to the park by the river and watch the freighters go by on a summer day.

Born and raised in Haarlem, The Netherlands and currently living in Miami FL. They can keep Miami, but I love the Everglades. As might be obvious in my portfolio

Haarlem is the city of the arts in Holland. Lots of painters and writers. In the past also weavers. They claim that one of them Laurens Coster invented book printing right before Gutenberg . The opinions about this are divided though. About 150,000 people think they are correct, the rest of the world thinks they are not. lol (the Chinese did really)

I presently live in Guelph, Ontario.. which is also home to Guelph university famous for its Veterinary programs and research. There is also a vibrant arts community here.

I walk everywhere here which keeps me fit. Although I was born and raised in Ontario, as I get older I could do without the nasty winters!! I wish Canada had a "warm province" that we could escape to. Most older Canadians work their way to Florida or Arizona for the worst winter months.

I live in Merritt Island Florida. It is best known as the location of the Kennedy Space Center. It is where the manned flights to the moon and the shuttles were launched from but most people think it was from Cape Canaveral. The visitors center for the space center is here also. Most people here either worked at the Sea Ray boats plants or in the shuttle program. The end of the shuttle program and the bad economy led to huge layoffs and a lot of people moving away. So the housing crisis is as bad here as anywhere or worse. Come buy a cheap house. We are minutes away from Port Canaveral and Cocoa Beach. The town of Cocoa is 2 miles away on the mainland side and there are lots of galleries and art festivals there.

Everyone I know that is not from North Carolina seems to be moving there. If they come from states further North and go to NC in the summer they call them half backs here.

I live in Papillion, Nebraska, a suburb of Omaha and have lived here since 1987. I was raised in New Mexico (kindergarten and 1st grade in Santa Fe and after that Albuquerque through four years at UNM there). My husband was in the Air Force so we traveled for over 20 years - only one overseas assignment, but it was a wonderful experience. Our last assignment before Omaha was Belgium and that's where I started to learn French; when we came back to the states in '87, I took courses at the university and got a major in it. Then I taught it for 20 years. I retired three years ago.

I live in Worthing, a town on the south coast of England. My wife and I moved down here 5 1/2 years ago and before that I was a born and bred Londoner.

I love living here, sandwiched between the coast and the Sussex Downs, which has recently become a National Park. There are many great locations. You might notice the influence of the seaside and (especially) Worthing Pier in my portfolio. There's some London too. I want to get up to the Downs more this year as there are some lovely views of unspoilt countryside that I haven't had a chance to photograph yet.

I'm originally from Lynchburg, VA but have lived in South Carolina now for about 20 years. For the past 7 years I've lived in Dillon which is on I95. Anyone on the East Coast who has ever been down 95 will remember that tacky tourist trap, South of the Border, well I live a few miles from there. Dillon was founded on agriculture and a rail line. There isn't a lot going on here with the arts but there are a lot of great old houses and architecture in town. I'm only an hour and a half drive to Myrtle Beach, where I used to live. I don't go down there in summer unless I absolutely have to. The traffic is terrible. I've thought about moving to Asheville, NC because I do miss the mountains but I'm not sure I could take the winters up there.

I live outside Round Top, Texas, population 91. It has grown from 80 during the last 15 years. (Anything over 10,000 is like Big City to me! ;) ) Round Top has often been described as "a place where Norman Rockwell meets Andy Griffith", and this is a very apt description. Walking into our town is like walking into 1940s America. Every child is known by every single teacher in the school. The townsfolk still get together in the local pub to sing Christmas carols. It is not unknown to write up your own receipt at the local mercantile if the employees are too busy.

We are host to America's largest antiques fair (which many claim is the best in the world) and we are the site of the oldest Independence Day parade west of the Mississippi. We still shoot off our cannon from the Civil War to start the parade.

The photographic possibilities here are never-ending.

Unfortunately, the place is so magical that it draws a lot of tourists. Fortunately, it's too far from big-city conveniences for most of the tourists to be happy there for much longer than a visit. :)

Greensboro North Carolina born and except for a few years living in Winston-Salem (one city over) I've lived here all my life. Nice area, about 3.5 hours from the coast and about the same for the mountains. Also about 1.5 hours from both Raleigh and Charlotte.

@Asheville North Carolina peeps, almost moved there around 1991 when I was having a go trying to make a living with woodburned art work. Either there or Black Mountain. Love the area!

@Janice, my dad was from Plymouth Mass. His uncle 'Paul' owned the newspaper there at one time and my grandmother was a typesetter. I've only been twice and that was many years ago but thought it was a great area beautiful scenery, character and architecture. I did not enjoy the car ride with my grandmother from Boston airport into Plymouth....OMG!! That was 30 years ago and it was horrible!!!

Munich, Germany across from Neu Perlacher Forst
On a farm in Troschellhammer, Germany
Heidelberg, Germany
Wurzburg, Germany
New York City, USA
Houston, Texas
On a ship in the Pacific Ocean during a Typhoon

I have enjoyed the Inca culture and ruins in Peru. Roman ruins in Germany and Hungary. The forests of Germany. Historical buildings in Ft Sill Oklahoma. The real USS Enterprise when it visited Peru. Museum of Modern Art in NYC. New York city subways. Frankfurt, Germany subways. The Louvre in France and the Salt Lick BBQ in Driftwood, Texas hmmm. The My Canh Café (floating restaurant-great butterfly shrimp) in Saigon now called Ho Chi Minh City in Viet-Nam. Being inside a cloud in the Swiss Alps. Exploring underground tunnel complexes in Berchtesgaden, Germany. Being given a little tiny 1" yellow note from a 2nd grader thanking me for teaching her class how to draw in Grafenwohr, Germany. Flying around in huge Oklahoma clouds in a little yellow two seater plane with a wood plank as a seat.

I live in the south central part of the Province of British Columbia, BC... Canada.

Our little town is right on the border of US/CAN - Washington residents are our closest neighbours and many come here for school or/+ health care. We go shopping there as their prices are better.... The only thing separating us is an old fallen down bared wire fence and a brush cut trail... we always laugh when someone asks to see the border and we point to the field at the end of the road and say.... half that field is in the states and the other half is in Canada.... We live in Canamerica.

Cheers, Barbara

the last 41 years I live in Toronto, Toronto is the largest city in Canada one of the world's most diverse cities by percentage of non-native-born residents, with about 49% of the population born outside Canada. We have many museums, theaters and art galleries. Toronto is also consistently rated as one of the world's most livable cities. Personally, it offer endless inspirations and opportunities for my art.

I live on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, Canada. More specifically, I live in Pender Harbour, which is on the northern end of the peninsula. The Sunshine Coast is only accessible by plane or boat. You can take a 40-minute ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay (close to Vancouver) on the mainland or from Vancouver Island to Powell River, then Powell River to the coast. We have many freshwater lakes as well as the ocean, mountains and trees galore. Lots of wildlife too, as you can probably tell from my photographs.

I just went swimming in the ocean yesterday. Today I think I'll swim in a lake. Last time I did that I took various dragonflies for a ride on my fingertip. Life is good.

Now I'm off to sell my wares at the Sechelt Farmers and Artisans Market, down the coast. We have approximately 70 artisans and farmers at this market and it's a popular draw for tourists. It's a beautiful, sunny day la la!

Melissa, yes, I remember the Bittingers. I never put two and two together when I saw your name. My sister worked for the Old Colony Memorial right out of high school before she took a job at Probate Court. The best man at my wedding, Mr. Schneider, was the Treasurer.

The traffic is worse now. I never drive into Boston. I take the commuter rail or drive to the nearest subway station 30 minutes away. Whenever I traveled, I would take the P&B bus to and from Logan. Once the highway goes down to two lanes, it's an easier ride.

Coastal Delaware, USA, is where I call home. I'm two miles from the Atlantic Ocean just west of the town of Fenwick Island. This place has incredible sunrises and sunsets - and that's a good thing because I love to photograph them. There is also a lot of nearby farmland and even though the coastal area is flat, there are amazing places to shoot landscapes and nature.

I am from Rapid City South Dakota and was raised between there and San Diego. These days I live in Bang Saphan, Thailand. Bang Saphan (BS as the local expats call it) is on of the last areas of the East coast that has not been overrun by too many tourists - for now. It is the a mass of coconut groves. small fishing boats and empty beached 9 months a year. With a fun, travel invasion during the high season of November to January. That's just enough to get a little socializing with an international crowd done before returning back to out sleepy little world.

Hello,

I live in beautiful sunny Austin, TX. I moved here a little over a year ago when I was 7 months pregnant with our little girl Aaliyah. Like everything we were ambitious, buy a house, moving to another state and having a baby all at the same time! We love it here! Austin is huge on preservation and environmental sustainability, plastic bags are actually outlawed here. It was a little hard to get used to at first, I was always pretty good about grocery shopping, but I had the hardest time remembering when I went to places like Target. We've all adapted and I'm sure it's had a huge impact on the landfill. There is so much to do here and so much natural beauty! Town Lake asset to the city that is pretty incredible, there are various bridges that you can use to cross over and it will turn your jog/run into a 3, 4.2, 8 or 15 mile stretch. Town Lake on any given day is used by 3,000 to 15,000 people per day. There is definitely a super positive vibe happening while circling. I love it because you can go by yourself and not feel alone at all. As you can see I am a pretty happy camper and love living here in Austin!
