Keyword Character Count Seems Off

When I compose my keywords in a Word document, I always use Word's character counting tool. I put a lot of time and thought into my keywords, but when I paste them into the Keywords box, in the past several months the FAA counter nearly always says I have six or so more characters than Word counted. Today the FAA counter said I had 510 characters, and Word said I had 496. That's the largest discrepancy I've ever had--14 characters too many!

Is anyone else having this problem? I did have it happen once before, and the problem resolved itself. Then for a long period I could trust that Word and FAA would agree. Now the count is off, and seems to vary. Sometimes off by 6 characters, then 10, and now 14.. Quite frustrating! Obviously I can deal with it by deleting words I thought were important. More to the point: I'd like to find out why it's happening, and when it will be fixed. Perhaps it's just something that should be report to Tech Support. Thanks!

Sean did talk about pending adjustments to the counter. Perhaps he is tinkering with it today.

Connie, I also use 'Word' for keywording and it always counts correctly.

I see that you're not just using keywords, but also phrases, e.g. 'restored building,' and 'dr. pepper bottling company,' and so on.
A space counts as a character, so you have to read the Word Count Characters (with spaces)

I just had Word count the characters you used on an image you uploaded today: 'Dr. Pepper Bottling Co Bellville 1944' ...
you used 498 characters (with spaced) - 499 if you used a comma after 'Canon'.

Thanks for that info, Jeff. Glad to hear it. There's definitely a problem.

Christine, I have nearly always used single keywords, separated by a comma and with no spaces. I am aware that a space counts as a character, so I use character counts and not word counts. But recently I discovered that certain members who sell a lot use two- or three-word phrases such as "scenic american landscape," and seeing that compelled me to branch out. I started doing that only in the past week or two--but this counting problem precedes my doing so. That said, if you went through some of my images posted when I joined (late 2011), you'd find the same needs for improvement in keywords that I am trying to correct as I discover them. More recent posts are better examples.

To clarify, what I'm talking about is this: If I were to use individual words only, plus commas and no spaces, the way Word counts them as characters differs from how FAA counts them as characters. This happened once long ago and was fixed. But now it's happening again.

BTW: The keywords for Dr. Pepper Bottling Co., Bellville, stand at 499 only because I deleted my name from the keywords when I discovered the FAA count was 510. When I did, it suddenly dropped to either 499 or 500. I don't like to delete my name, but that was the quickest and easiest way to solve the problem.

Thanks for your input. I appreciate it. But I still stand by my experience that there's a counting problem either with Word (my computer is brand-new) or with FAA.
