New Member With A Couple Questions

Hello, I joined FAA a few days ago and am in the process of uploading images to FAA, and need some help on a couple of things. I have checked the FAQ, the site info and Discussions but am unable to find the answers.

Is there a fairly detailed explanation/tutorial on each of the features associated to uploading images. The only thing I have found is generic stuff that has little detail on how exactly to do certain things. As an example, if I use the Default Category for a number of images then wish to change the category for one or two of those images, it indicates not to worry that it can be easily accomplished later, but does n to explain how.

Literally within hours of joining the site, I rec'd an unsolicited spam email from someone purporting to be a female looking for "friendship". I tried blocking this sender, but it appears the sender has to also be an FAA member to block (it appears she/he is not). How do I block and is this type of spam common and something to look forward to??

Also, are topics posted by members, open to view to anyone or restricted to members only?

Thanks in advance,

Marv

Galleries - Just create a new gallery, then, you can move previously uploaded images in to it.

Yes, spam e-mailer's do show from time to time. Just delete them.

As long at topics and not made private anyone can read them.

Abbie (the main moderator and tech person here) used to have a bunch of tutorials on her site, but it went wonky and she redid the site, lost a lot of content so I don't see them on the new site now. Hopefully she'll pop in here.

Set your defaults because it makes everything go a lot quicker. When you upload you will still have the option of changing anything you want - did you see when you uploaded that you could pick the medium (category)?

Jeffery - individual galleries aren't part of the defaults - the categories = mediums.

"Jeffery - individual galleries aren't part of the defaults - the categories = mediums."

I never said they were.

Marv is a new member. Simply explaining how to place images in galleries in lieu of any provided tutorials. :-)

Really nice stuff Marv! Welcome aboard!

"Literally within hours of joining the site, I rec'd an unsolicited spam email from someone purporting to be a female looking for "friendship". "

Did you get lucky? lol

Just kidding!

I got that email too. I have been here near 2 years... that was only the second, maybe third spam emails I have gotten so don't let that worry you.

Thanks everyone for your replies (and links).

I have read over the links and things are starting to gel a bit.

As with most things, doing it for the first time can be a bit confusing for awhile (at least for me). I have found that part of the confusion is caused by a bit different layout being used on the Profile page as opposed to what the shopper sees in the drop down menu on the main page.

As an example, my stuff is either straight photography or digital manipulation of those photos (digital art), and I'm getting familiar with setting up the medium in Default. However, the photos and/or digital art can also be classified as "Abstract" as found by the shopper in the drop down menus (under "Subject") and I can't figure out how to apply an "Abstract" or similar Subject label so they will show up when that is requested by the shopper.

Anyway, again, thanks for the help.

Floyd,

Was typing my last reply so just read your post.

Thanks for your comments.

I'm not usually overly concerned with a bit of spam emails, just thought it was so bizarre that I got one so quickly and before any other legitimate messages.

My first thought of the seemingly very nice lady from some exotic location, was of a big burly guy, or group of guys, sitting in front of a screen dressed in a dirty tank top, sipping on a warm cola, in a darkish, drab, bare room. Not sure my wife would have let me invite them over for a beer!!

Cheers,

Marv

Marvin, if you need to change pricing on individual images, just click the edit button under the image. That will take you back to the 'loading info' area. Otherwise, yes, it is much easier to setup default pricing. If you ever need to replace an image, do the same thing. Don't delete the whole listing, just change the image. You will lose views and comments if you delete the whole thing. I mention this because I know a few people who have not realized they could have just changed the image on the existing listing.

Abstract is just a keyword people have used. Those in that category on the left have put it in their keywords.
